So I am 52 years old and my kids tell me I need to get a cell phone, so OK I'll get one. Please suggest one.

I need large fonts in the display.

I need the ringer to be loud.

I need large buttons.

I do not want one of those Juniperberry phones.

I don't need a camera

I don't want video games.

Actually all I really want is a reliable wireless Telephone. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

JB

I'm very happy with my Motorola Razor. Large buttons, fits nicely in my
shirt pocket, good reception and build quality. Best phone yet for me and I've
owned a lot of different models, the vast majority being total JUNK.

I have always been happy with Motorola phones. Had an LG here at work and it SUCKED!

I now have a Razr for work and recently got the Krazr for my personal phone. Between the two, I prefer the Krazr. Not much you can do with the font size with either - put your reading glasses on - I do. LOL!

BTW - just about every phone out there now has a built in camera - even the cheapy ones. Camera isn't a bad thing to have if you carry the phone at all times. Wish I'd had one when I was rear ended several months back to take pics at the scene just in case. You don't need to subscribe to the Vcast type video junk.

Don't want to start another which cell provider is best war, but I've been extremely happy with my Verizon service for years.

I saw the Jitterbug you mention on TV last night. I may be in mid life but I am not (yet) deaf, dumb and blind.
...Actually I have owned a cell, I am using it in my Avitar picture.

You could be a good candidate for a prepaid cell phone. You get one preloaded with minutes, and then you can "reload" minutes. They arent full featured, but will do what you want to do.

Thanks but I already have a Verizon account. My wife and kids all have phones. I am the hold out. I want to learn to do like my kids do in the AM. The kids day begins as follows..

Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring.

Then beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep.

Then Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring ring.

Then beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep

Then I usually shout what is all the racket? They say dad we're texting. WTF is texting. You know texting to our friends. Well if you want to communicat why not pick up THE LAND LINE and call them. All I get are blank stares.

So the Razor phone looks the the one for me,

Thanks all.

JB

i would Suggest NOT getting a Motorola phone, and not the Razor.. i had about 3 of those POS's.. maybe they are better now??

All phones Suck, all Service Providers suck, and you will get alot of varied responses from people..

id say get the most basic phone that version has, (since your family is already on that service)..

Hi All:

LMAOROTF! :D

I'd vote for the pre-paid cel phone; I have a Virgin Mobile unit - it cost me $30 and I re-charge it with $20 worth of minutes each month via their website.

Regards,

Alan

I'll throw in my $.02....

I've got the Razr V3T (1.3MP camera, BT, MP3 player) and it's held up for me pretty well, even on the trails.

I've even got a story to tell....

Me and a buddy went out diggin' last night (and took some girls with us for their first trip:D). We had to stop at the trailhead so my buddy could lock the hubs on his minitruck. While I was sitting in the my truck, I had my phone in my lap. I forgot this, and got out to talk with him for a minute before we got going. I didn't realize it at the time, but my phone had fallen out of my lap when I stepped out.
When we got back to the trailhead, I already realized that I had lost my phone. So we got out to look for it, and lo and behold, it was sitting right where I had stepped out before we left. Just with a cracked outer screen. Which still works. :D

BTW, I'm not affiliated with Motorola in any way, I've just had good experiences with their products.

I just got my first phone a year and a half ago, since then I have lost the ablitity to think for myself, wait unitl I get home to ask my wife somthing, talk to a local person and ask for directions and most important AVOID MY MOTHER CALLING!
seriously you dont need one. like a GPS unit vs a map. its a luxury.... Gotta go my mother is calling again.

I still have a couple of Ericsson R250D ("The Rock") cell phones...had all the features you want (as do I) .. unfortunately my carrier made them obsolete by requiring GSM SIM cards... I may switch carriers for a while if I can find one I can still use them with; waterproof, bulletproof and great battery life... unfortunately VERY LARGE. I later used a Panasonic which was pretty tough (litlle black rubberized unit) ... I think the Nokia are the most bulletproof these days ... if you can find a large key model let me know too!!

?

Thanks,

Ive always had a good run from the Nokias. Im not sure about the US but Ive found phone accounts are half the price of prepaid in OZ.
I also find buying unblocked phones from ebay the cheapest way to get a phone.

When you do get one,try to act like its not your 1st phone.
Everyone hates older people who get there 1st phone and act like they are the original cell phone owner:rolleyes::D

The only thing I could say is to go the Verizon store and see which one YOU like best.

I would very highly recommend that you get one that is Bluetooth compatible, then get a Plantronics PLT-510 headset.

There is nothing more miserable, when I have to do it, or more irritating, when someone else does it, than driving and holding the phone to your ear.

Good luck!
