A "dampener" would be a wet towel.
A "damper" damps movement.
Check. Didn't mean to "dampen" anyone"s spirits with my misspelling :grinpimp:
 
Been down this road before. Check out your panhard rod bushings (lateral control arm on the front axle). Should be tight as ****.

Like the others said, the dampner helps smooth things out but shouldn't be causing a wobble.
