I finally had my new Cooper Zeon LTZ in size 275-70-18 mounted today. They look sweet!!! Anyone saying these are not ATs needs to take a closer look. They are every bit as aggressive as BFG ATs and probably more so than Terra Grapplers (the shop had a TG for comparison). Before and after pics below...

Tread Pics

Here are some close ups of the tread - pretty deep lugs, definitely an AT...

Very sharp. I was leaning towards BFG's, but you've got me seriously rethinking that decision. I'll need new dogs in the next couple of months.

How did the price compare to the BFG and how is the noise level running these?

Also, do you have the 1.5" lift or the 2.5" lift?

I got mine at treadepot.com for $188 per tire. BFG AT was $195. The price was very good and they are in GA so shipping is much cheaper than many of tire places in CA. Got the tires in 2 days after placing order.

I can feel a small difference in ride quality vs. Bridgestone street tires but it is minimal. Have not tried highway speed yet. Also consider that the Zeons have an "S" (112 mph) speed rating vs. BFGs "R" (106 mph) rating. Both are load range "E".

I have the OME Medium Lift from Slee with 1.5" front, 2" rear.

Hope that helps.

I just got the same tires in 285/60R18. Check 'em out!

Around town and highway manners are a tad stiffer than the stock tires but not bad at all. The 100 is so cushy it's almost hard to tell.

I don't mean this in a bad way (cause they look sweet on your truck) but it seems that your tread is shallower than mine. Is it just the angle of the pic? The 285-60-18 is no longer listed on the Cooper website. When did you get it?

Could you post a full side view of the truck?

Hey no prob -– can't imagine taking offense about tires. WTF? That's pretty funny.

The tread is pretty deep, but nothing like the Cooper STT2's I had on my Tacoma. Also, telephoto flattens things, maybe that's it? Regardless I am certain the tread is deeper on yours. I struggled with 275/70 vs. 285/60 for awhile, but went with 285/60 because I wanted wider, not taller. When I lift it, I will go with relatively narrow 34's I think.

Sorta side view pics…

Your truck is hooked up way better than mine. No ego issues here.

My thought process was:
1. Search 1h8mud extensively, combine with my experience lifting an '05 Taco (ttora.com rocks) with similar, but updated, goals. Stir well.
2. Compare availability/cost ratios for Cooper Zeon, BFG AT/KO, and Revo2's.
3. Call local tire shops with what I am looking for. Buy from nearest and cheapest.

Coopers win. Price, service, performance. They're very similar to ATKO in terms of tread depth and cost. Time will tell if they perform as well.

The STT2's I had were amazing so I guess I am a Cooper guy. The thing is, my Revo2's were awesome too, up until that manzanita stump opened one up. I wonder if an STT2 would have had the same problem. Unfair comparison for sure.

Update: I have been driving on the Cooper Zeon LTZ in 275-70R18 for almost 3 weeks now and I am getting used to them. After about a week I finally took them on the highway and had major vibrations that made me rethink the purchase. Went back to the shop and requested road force balance which they did at no extra charge!!! I was ready to pay extra for the Road Force but the shop owner insisted that they should have done it in the first place and since they did not charge me then, he was not gonna charge me now (I did NOT buy the tires there, BTW). Five Oaks Tire in Sevierville, TN.

After the Road Force, the vibration was 95% better so I am happy and the wife is too :princess:

One thing about these tires: They are heavy (load Range E) and you can definitely feel it. My guesstimate is that I lost about 1 mpg and I can feel the truck working harder to move. At the same "engine noise" the truck now does 60MPH vs. 65MPH with the old Bridgestone Dueler HTs. Although - that may just be the taller tire size throwing off the speedo. I should check with my GPS.

Highway noise is pretty good for such an aggresive tire. With the windows closed you can hear a soft hum - not bad at all but you notice it. At slower speeds with the windows open you can also hear it but again - not bad.

Overall I am happy with the tires but I think the Load Range E is complete overkill on our Land Cruisers. Load Range D would have been plenty but Cooper (or most other tire companies) don't make a 275-70R18 in C or D Load Ranges.

I will post another update after a trip to Windrock park to test the "AT" component of the ZEONs.:D

In case anyone was wondering about air pressure: I am running factory settings of 29 Front, 32 Rear. Because of the stiff sidewalls there is very little sag with that pressure.

One last thing: Tire Height

OEM Bridgestone Dueler HT in 275-60R18: 30 5/8" (unloaded with good tread)

New Cooper Zeon LTZ 275-70R18: 32 3/4" (unloaded with new tread)

Cooper website has this tire spec'd at 33.2" so they are a bit generous.

What are your experiences with tire heights. Is the BFG AT 275-70-18 a true 33" ? What about other tires?

Since it seems that some people tend to think that LOAD RANGE E is a bit of overkill for Cruisers, how do y'all think the Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/60R18 in a LOAD RANGE XL (listed at a diameter of 31.48") would compare?

For someone who isn't a serious off-roader would it be a happy medium to maintain a close to stock ride, but provide decent ability off road?

I think the XL rated tire is probably a better fit (utility wise) and if you are happy with the smaller diameter then go for it.

You are 100% correct. I got the M+S (inadvertently) so the tire is similar but different as you described later in the thread.

Normally I would be pissed about making a bad move like this, but they've worked out perfectly for my purposes. When I get f0x0red on random road somewhere I will explain to the warden why the heavier, more aggro tires make sense. Until then, color me happy camper.

Side note: I backed over a manzanita stump (looked like a cluster of punji sticks) and split my Revo AT2 WIDE open last year. I wonder if the Cooper STT2's would have survived that encounter. The sidewall opened up from rim to tread, aired out in 2 secs. WHOOSH. I don't know they make a tire that can deal with that yet work on the highway nicely.
