I used the dynamat extreme. Good stuff, be ready cause when you peel away exposing the adhesive side, that s*** sticks! Kinda pricey though. Someone else posted a link to some similar stuff that was cheaper. Search for a post i started about a month ago.

Yeah, I read that post. I've been doing some research and the peel and seal seems to be a favorite amongst the budget minded, as does the water-heater insulation. I just can't justify the expense of the dynamat, especially with the vast amounts needed to do a land cruiser floor, quarter panels, doors and firewall. I might use a dynamat product on the firewall and doors, because of its heat resistivity(if it's not a word, it is now :flipoff2: ) and it's ability to securely adhere in vertical applications.

Once the knife puntures the vinyl, I know I am committed (why is it that even with music playing in the garage, the "pop" of the knife going into the taught vinvl sounds like an explosion....are my nerves giving way.........)

THIS NEVER GOES AWAY if you are good installer. At least door panels on a Land Cruiser are replaceable. Imagine the STRESS of installing speakers into a one off street rod or my personal worst a 512 TR Ferrari. I think you did an awesome job. That amp mount is very nice. You choose very nice components. A lot nicer than I would personally use for my Cruiser, but that is only because I probably am sometimes on the borderline of abuse to speakers and such in my Cruiser.

I wouldn't put myself in the category with the "pros" out there, like the shop that did Brentbba's rig. "I'm not an installer, I just play one on TV!"

I would put the quality of your install on par with a GOOD PRO INSTALLER. Have you seen the crap work most people do!!!! You did a great job (and I have done a few installs myself, but none that good).

Wow Stress! What an install. 6 1/2's up front and you made them fit! Like what you did to the rear doors. That's probably all I'll do eventually to 'finish off' my system. The rear doors are still stockspeakers. You also went with the higher end MB Quart Reference series. Nice! And I thought the Discus series sounded sweet. Huge sub. You REALLY must like your bass.

Glad my pics helped some. Thought you might have put the tweeters down in the door like mine instead of heart attack cutting into your door panel. What you did looks very nice.

I was pondering on how to place the dynamat, either behind the plastic, or on-top of the plastic on the door panels. Looks like you did both. A little behind and a little on-top. Are you worried about the dynamat getting moisture on/in it and mildewing or smelling moldy? Did you actually pull the plastic off, place the dynamat, and then stick the plastic to the dynamat?

I have used Dynamat for a long time and like it. I haven't used any of the newer "versions". The trick with the original stuff is to use a heat gun to help mold it to the surface then use a roller of some sort to press it down firm.

I pulled the plastic up. The black stuff holding it down is VERY sticky and doesn't get brittle. Just use slow pressure so you don't rip the plastic. On the drivers door, I cut the plastic out put on the dynamat and then taped the little overlap of plastic to the dynamat. On the passenger side, I just pulled the plastic back and then put it back over the top.

I have used Dynamat in several different different situations and never had a problem. Just make sure to use the heat gun and roller to get rid of air pockets and such. (BTW - if you look at the stuff that is on the inside of the fender panel where the factory sub was, it is basically the same stuf, but a little thicker.

On the speakers, I chose the Premium for the front because I listened to them and really liked them a lot. I did listen to the Discus and they probably would have been fine. But I got the Premium for about half of retail, so I couldn't pass it up. And the rear are the Reference again because I got I good deal. ( I think the MB line goes Discus, Reference, Premium, Q-Line). My wife just says I have more money than sense. (Well, not anymore!!!! )

Thanks for all the great input and compliments. Seeing your finished product is a great stroke of ego. Having others tell you good things is even better!
