For any of you newbs out there who, like me, raised the spare tire without dropping the winch ( 
)....trust me, it is worth the little bit of extra work.
I maxed my tire lift and did some "body work" underneath to get better access to the winch. But it was a real pain until I dropped the winch about an inch.
Like butter now.....
