So a couple weeks ago I found a very vague ad for a 2000 LC on craigslist. It had 165k and was priced in the 9-10k range. I inquired about it, but the seller didn't really know much about the car and it was hard to get the answers I needed from him. He was located about 2.5hrs from me so I just wrote it off and continued my search, unsuccesfully.

Now flash forward to a few days ago. I took my fiance with me to test drive a 2001 that available locally. I wanted to get her in one and hopefully get a definite green light on buying one (not that specific one as it was really overpriced). Well, much to my surprise my plan actually worked and she told me to just hurry up and buy one so I can get it over with before our wedding in a couple months.

So that night I made contact with the owner of the previously mentioned 2000 LC to see if it was still available and it was. At this point, the craigslist ad was about a month old so I figured I had a little more bargaining power. I ran a carfax and it showed it being a one owner car with good service history. The carfax and toyota service history both listed the paint color as Jade. I figured it was just an error as this does happen from time to time if a buyer orders a car in a certain color, then makes a last minute change to paint color. I offered him $7k cash, pending inspection in person, and he agreed.

I posted on here asking for any advice when inspecting the vehicle and got some helpful suggestions.

Upon inspection, I found the interior to be disgustingly filthy and unmaintained. It was smoked in, dirty, and leather was trashed. The paint job was crappy. They didn't bother masking off rubber grommets and hoses, etc. The drivetrain was excellent though and that was the biggest factor for me. I decided to buy it knowing that some of the fun stuff (bumpers, lift, rack) might have to wait a little longer that I wanted in order to replace the interior and fix some other issues that I'll go into later.

Over the last couple days I've put about 5hrs into detailing and have only done a quick vacuum of the whole vehicle, the dash, console, front door panels, front air vents, and glovebox. This thing was dirty. Hopefully not for long. Here are some photos as it sits now. I haven't touched the seat belt area or headliner yet so that'll give you an idea of how dirty the rest of it was. I've found an upholstery shop that will do both front seats, center console, and entire middle row in for $550 so hopefully that will get done in the next week or two.

The only possible evidence of an accident that I could find was the creased up door panel on the front passenger door. So i'm thinking maybe it sustained a minor side impact. Frame, suspension, and everything else on that side was fine though. So if they did repair anything they definitely did a better job tha

Wow, people were real pigs that owned that. I think the head liner and seat belts were used for a napkin.

Congrats, welcome to the club! As long as it's mechanically sound it's a good truck.

Nice LC! I don't think mine was considered dirty now after seeing that!

Congratulations and welcome. The upholstery job will really make it feel like it's your vehicle. My seats were kinda thrashed (but not like this), and just putting Specter seat covers on the front two rows went a long way psychologically.

is it me or does the front passenger seat look super clean? It's almost like some big dirty mofo spent the last 15 years driving around alone. Or maybe it got replaced after the suspected side impact?

Congrats on the purchase and good luck with the recovery. Just wondering how an owner, any owner for that matter, would take diligent care of the maintenance but also let the physical condition deteriorate to this extent. I can't even fathom the possibility. I'm sure that must have crossed your mind at some point. How did you rationalize that?

Yeah, the passenger looks to have been reupholstered recently or is a replacement seat (this is the door where I suspect a side impact). It is insanely clean/new compared to the rest.

Some people are just dirty people. If you saw the guy I saw, you would get it. Also, this was his wife's car and family hauler and if she's anything like my fiance, cleaning her car interior is the last thing on her mind. The guy was a hot rod guy and had a couple classics in great shape so he probably knew the importance of regular maintenance, but didn't feel that telling his wife to clean her nasty @ss interior was worth the argument ;)

I can see where you're coming from. Still a little surprising to see the interior condition reach the point that it did, but the person responsible for this likely isn't the same person maintaining the car. Good luck and have fun with it!

Great find, $7k for a one-owner 2000 LC is a pretty good deal as long as it checks out and it seems you've done some due diligence on your part. I've started my search for one and most of the 2000s (at least here in TX) range from $9.5k-$11k so you got the car cheap enough to invest in making it look good again. These LC's have taken bullet holes and been exposed to far worse conditions, and still run so I'm sure your pampering will make the LC whole again!

Very nice score, I'd have no problem cleaning up an interior for that price. The paint thing is pretty weird, but from that exterior shot it doesn't look terrible, to me at least. Are you getting leather for that super cheap re-upholstery price?

The guy is doing the mean seat panels (where your butt and back touch) as well as the headrests, armrests, and center console in leather. The rest will be an identical vinyl.

My thoughts exactly!
