FINALLY a 100 owner! (pic added with new tires)

After lurking here for over a year, I finally found the right 100 series. I picked up a 1998 with only 109k in super nice shape with the rear locker. The only thing is doesn't have that I'm kinda bummed about is no heated seats. I have had that in other vehicles for over 10 years, so hopefully it won't be too hard to get used to. I picked it up for $11.5k with a new windshield and new remote and key set from the dealer and the roof rack was included too. It's not the best price I've ever seen, but I felt really good about this one. It drives great, has been well maintained, it was local, the guy selling it was really cool, so I'm quite happy.

I also finally unloaded my aging BMW X5 - which ironically was newer and also had 109k miles on it. I feel loads more comfortable with the miles on an LC vs an X5 though :D

I have an appointment at 8am tomorrow to get 285/75/16 Duratracs installed at Discount Tire, then I'm putting on Slee step sliders next week. Going to take it camping this weekend and test it out!

Here's the pic of how it looks today along with the old X5 which probably didn't belong off road but I did it anyways!

Congrats, and welcome!

Heated seats, easy problem to solve. Order a replacement leather kit from Metric TLC here on MUD. Then when installing add an aftermarket heated seats kit.

If I could give you mine I would. I unplugged them since I never use them (I'm always running hot, never cold).

Thank you! I am actually always cold, and I just moved back to Denver after 7 years in Vegas so I'm especially cold now haha. The leather is in really good shape, so I was thinking about seeing if I could reuse the skins and order an after market setup. I've seen several nice kits for a lot less than I anticipated, so it might be worth the time to do the project!

Welcome...looks like your new ride was in deed, well maintained. See you around the Mile High City and the rest of the state I am sure!

This reminds me of a guy I saw in a Mercedes M Class on the Lake Como Road. I was hiking down and he asked if he'd be able to make it up. I told him not a chance but he continued anyway.

Congrats on the purchase. It looks like it has been well maintained. You will not be sorry you traded up!

I had an 01 X5 4.4 and I loved it. Got it with 2800 miles on it and drove it until it reached 100K and the extended warranty ran out. Couldn't afford to fix it after that if something major went wrong. Never gave me any problems though. Mine was silver just like yours and a blast to drive!

Denver Crew REprezent

Glad to see more hundy mudders in D-town.
I just sold my FZJ80 about a month ago and acquired my '03 LX470.
Good for you taking the M5 off road. Did you get any weird looks when doing so?
Some people think the LX470 is not a capable truck, because it's a Lexus. One day I was driving up the mountain near St. Mary's glacier and some dude on his ATV said to my friend and I, "...there must be a story: two dudes in a Lexus in the middle of nowhere...?"
I didn't have anything nice to say so I just drove off.

Nice truck btw.

Thanks for the welcomes and the links! Yes I definitely got weird looks off roading in the X5 but lots of "hell yas" and "you're crazy!", but I had a lot of experience in off roading other things and was willing to take the risk with the bimmer. It actually didn't do too bad because it was very stable and had a sweet engine. I rarely had more than 2 tires on the ground at any give time though :D

So I had to go over to Discount to see if the tires were on, and they were! I had to take a poser pic because it made the rig look sooo much better! I'm going to crank the torsion bars just a tad up front because it definitely sits very nose low (hard to tell on the pic because it's not level), and perhaps do a slight spacer in the back. I'm taking it camping tomorrow after work and will learn more about how the tires fit very soon!

Warning, do some reading before you hop under the LC and crank those bars too far. Lifting the front too far has lots of negative effects on the handling both on-road and off-road. The LC is designed to have some rake front to back, leveling it out completely is not ideal.

Also note cranking the t-bars changes the front geometry, so you will want to take it to an alignment shop immediately afterward to not mess up those nice new tires...

You will love your new shoes on your rig, if you haven't run them before btw!

Thanks! These will be my first go around - I have been out of the whole off road scene since around 2004 so the tire choices have really changed since then. I used to run the old style MTRs which I liked a lot and also some Super Swamper TSLs which were amazing off road, and I ran BFG ATs for the street which really surprised me that they still have the exact tread pattern as 8 years ago. I figured they would be redesigned like the MTs by now, so I was disappointed. I've read nothing but good things about Duratracs for an all around tire, so I'm looking forward to experiencing it for myself!

but I just wanted enough clearance in the front end so the tires don't get chewed up under compression.

You don't need to worry about shredding 285/75/16 even in stock form, there is a lot more room in those 100 LC wheel wells that you think! Many here on MUD run 295/75/16 with slight t-bar crank in the front and little to no rub. That includes myself, up until recently when I upgraded to 35's. Now 35's are whole other story, definitely some rubbing without change a few things.

Very nice truck! Nice going!

I'm a new Hundy owner myself!

Thank you for the confidence - I didn't touch the TBs last night. I am loaded up to go camping and wheeling in a few hours, so I'll report back how it all goes! It will be my first real off road trip in over 7 years - I'm pretty excited!

Took out the 100 for a camping trip this weekend and was able to hit a few trails and test out the new tires. It performed extremely well and going up some steep rocky hills with water in various places we hardly even noticed a single slip. I engaged the CDL but that was it and probably wasn't even necessary. I also pulled the trailer with a quad and dirtbike over a 12,000 foot pass like it wasn't even there. Sorry for the poor quality iphone pics and lack of action shots but my group would have been annoyed if I stopped to take them haha. I'm planning to go on a much more technical trip next weekend (hoping to get sliders between now and then), and I'll have better pics for sure.
