Under the catagory of REALLY old business, cruiserjohn has been waiting a couple of YEARS for me to snap a pic of how I cut the bed on the 45 to mount the filler neck for the aux tank. Now that I finally got around to taking the pic, I find that the original thread:

is CLOSED!

So anyways John, I found that this was the minimum level that I could cut out of the bed and still have enough elevation gain in the filler neck to prevent non-stop back pressure from the tank when filling. There are several extra cuts that subsequently turned out to be unnecessary. Such is the fate of being the one to conduct the initial experiments.

I made one arched shaped cut in the bed on the expectation of having some of the filler neck tube actually visible above the line of the bed. I subsequently determined that this did not result in an appropriate transition between the filler neck and the neck of the tank. I also discovered that since the early filler neck cutout has a standing seam where the body of the cutout is welded to the filler tube mounting plate, that I needed to either put two notches in the bed to clear the standing seam, or grind down the standing seam. I elected to do the first, figuring that I was going to have to do some bed repairs for the arched filler tube cutout miscalculation anyways.

Soooo, after sliding the cutout up and down to find the optimum position for the neck of the tube to meet the neck of the tank, I determined that the crown of the arch of the filler neck would be 3.5" above the bed, and the cutout would extend 2.5" into the bed, with two extra notches for the standing seam.

Thanks for your patience John.:)
