When I bought my 88 fj62 the passenger side rear quarter panel fender flare was missing. I'm taking them off now, but just curious if anyone knew what kind they are. Inside they are stamped LNDCRU FJ60 and have the numbers
82489 79 written. Thought if I could find the missing piece, I might could sell them. Thanks.:)

Not very good pics, but:

Not really rigid, flexible I guess you would say. Taking them off cause a piece is missing. Had a few ask about selling them, but may reuse them if I can find out where to get the piece. I know, they collect mud and water and rust, but I think they look good.

Those are Spector Off Road copies of the original Toyota flare. They are made out of Urethane. The factory ones are fiberglass and bolt on. Spector Off Road still sells them. I have the real ones on my 61 and Spectors on my 62.

Hate to disagree about the composition of SOR's replica flares, but to quote their online catalog "Specter now offers fiberglass Sahara Fender Flares for your 60 & 62 Series wagon. These flares are very similar to the O.E.M. Toyota flares that were available on Non-USA 60 Series models in other countries. These flares come finished in black gelcoat, and can be painted to match your vehicle. This six piece set comes with mounting hardware and welting to protect the paint and body of your vehicle. Minor shaving and drilling required for installation. Fits all 60 Series."

When SOR has to do extensive modification to make something fit, it's only "minor shaving & drilling".

They're fiberglass, so they'll break when you bash 'em.

No disagreement here. The 2 sets I bought from Spector were rubber. Maybe now they offer fiberglass, in which case I would probably not buy them either. The ones shown in the pictures that are asked about are the eurethane ones.

I just noticed today that JT outfitters also carries some flares, No mention of what they are made of though. and $500, I'd hate to break a piece of $500 dollar fiberglass.

cody c, could you post some pics of those installed? Do they match Kappa's? And does anybody know if you can still get the urethane ones?

Aw shucks ... more grinding for installation ...

:)

Have a pair of flares labeled 'FTP' and part number. Bought from Man-it-a'int-Free a while ago. Supposedly imported from Australia.

Eight piece ? Just like in the Specter photo. Look close at the photo there are eight pieces ?

Substantial fiberglass build. Not flimsy at all. No hardware and minimal mounting edging. Picked them up because need something to dressup the rear fender lip on both sides.

Should have them on in about 2 weeks.

Waggoner5, how do those flares mount? Do they mount to the lips, or are they mounted farther up?

Could they substitute for missing lips due to rust. Thanks man.

Personally I think they are junk. They come with 0 mounting parts and when I called I was told that they double taped on the top edges. Thats it. I hand made brackets for all 6 pieces and won't go that route again. I don't think they would work where there is missing metal because of the mounting.

Oh great ... just great ...

Give it about 2 weeks and I doubt I'll have any better luck than Gary (probably a lot less) but will post up with whatever happens.

Sigh. Live-n-learn.

P.S. We need another smiley face selection with an "L" over his head ...
