Hi all,
It kills me to be doing this, but I'm looking at a 200 series and I will in all likelihood be picking that up end of this week. When that happens, the '06 will go to a new home, ideally around the beginning of May after I get the new truck registered. Nothing is signed yet, but in the interest of getting all ducks in a row, I wanted to put this out there. If you’re at all interested, please read thoroughly as I’ll try to include all the nitty-gritty. This truck could either live as-is for a long while or be a great/clean starting point for a true wheeling/overlanding rig that you wouldn’t feel too bad about it getting some pinstriping on.
Here are the cliff notes:
Year: 2006
Mileage: 226k and climbing slowly
Colors: Black ext./grey int.
Title: clean/clear and in-hand
Price: $20,000 OBO (price could be lowered if buyer doesn't want Trekboxx system)
NOT INTERESTED IN TRADES
I could write a dissertation on how much I've enjoyed caring for and using this truck over the last 8.5 yrs. but I'll try to keep it short. I bought this from a dealership in PA with about 135k on it because I had been looking for a year-ish and this had, by far, the closest to a "rust free" underbody I had seen. Black was not my first choice but it was too clean underneath to pass up (if that tells you anything). I have done my best to keep it as clean as possible with religious washes during the winter months. Anybody will tell you I take very good car of my cars, maintenance was always done by myself (for the simple stuff), Wellesley Toyota, or more recently because of a move out of the city, Volsar Automotive. Both are top notch shops and the guys there know me and how particular I am. I would not hesitate to have prospective buyers reach out to any of these places and ask about the truck. Every time I’ve been into the shop, I’ve always asked them to see if there was anything that needed doing, no expense was spared in keeping this running smoothly, I cannot emphasize enough how much importance I’ve placed on maintaining this rig!
The truck is mostly stock with a few tasteful upgrades for what some might call an "OEM+" look.
Modifications:
285/60/R18 Toyo Open Country ATIIs (slightly wider than stock, perfect fitment IMO, no rubbing, really fills out the wheel wells nicely), full size spare. Still have decent life left on them. Great tires in all weather and quiet on the highway.
Yellowbox speedometer correction
Front windows tinted to 35% (max allowed in MA)
RIHIDs-built quad projector retrofit with Morimoto bulbs/ballasts. My only issue with the 100 series from the get-go was the lighting, this changes that drastically. Good output (35W ballasts) and a great cutoff. LED strips act as DRLs. Not a cheap build but well worth it for me. They could use a light polish and Aerospace 303 protectant
Moritmoto XB LED fog lights done by yours truly. The OEM plastic lenses are fogging a bit, but the Morimoto is a self-contained unit so you could just take the OEM plastic lenses off and run the Morimoto exposed to the elements, I just haven’t gotten around to it.
Vaistech SL3B Bluetooth unit. Has worked well for audio streaming, mounted inside upper driver side HVAC vent. You don’t lose your 6 disc changer with this, very well integrated
Compustar remote start professionally installed and has performed flawlessly for 7+ years. I drove 1.5 hrs one way to THE most trustworthy guy as I'm very picky about who does work on this truck, especially wiring.
Dual USB outlet replacing center cigarette lighter outlet below radio controls, comes in very handy
Rubber mats front/rear (no need for cargo area)
Trekboxx drawer system with tailgate pad. This is effectively a Bravo system but with additional barriers. I worked with David to make something that would keep my dog happy and safe and it's been everything we've needed. I’m perfectly happy removing this and selling myself if the buyer doesn’t want it or if I don’t get a price I’m happy with. I’m flexible on whether this is included or not as it’s a big-ticket item that I’m sure some other 100 series owner would be happy to put to use. It has been wiped down regularly and seen very gentle use compared to what it was built for, looks great overall. 3rd row seats are covered/in storage and in good shape, of course included with the car.
OEM Toyota cabin air filter I replaced the factory non-filter box/unit with one that takes filters, seemed like a no-brainer to me! Common practice for those 100 series Cruiser owners who didn’t end up with one where you can change out the filter.
Pfran LEDs for interior lights and license plate. Much brighter than stock and a great, low cost/effective addition
Misc LX sound deadening pieces: door seals and under door panels, fit like a glove and seem to help a bit with road noise
Recent/notable maintenance:
Feb 2023: fresh fluids all around (front/rear diffs, engine oil, transfer case)
Feb 2023: pass side valve cover gasket
Fall 2022: new rear calipers pads and rotors, sway bar end links and bushings
179k miles: Timing belt and water pump done
2020: New pass side CV joint and hub, new rear springs
2019 : Alternator, A/C compressor, rear A/C compressor line, new front calipers, pads, rotors
2018: New mid-pipe on the exhaust
Before anyone asks, the AHC has been functioning well with a good number of gradations and neutral pressures last time I checked. She lowers/raises quickly and I've loved every minute of the flexibility, I'm going to miss that in a 200 series. I had to crank the T bars a few years ago to get the neutral pressures where I wanted them and have not had an issue since. As mentioned above, rear springs were replaced a few years ago, that helped keep neutral pressures ideal. Fluid is in good shape.
You get the idea: the maintenance list is exhaustive and the folder I have with records/receipts is thick! If anything at all needed to be done, it was done without hesitation. This was going to be the 20 year truck but we've decided it would be nice to have a few more creature comforts.
Bodywork:
Because I’m very particular, I had the hood and pass-side front fender re-painted. The clear was fading a bit on the hood and it bothered me. There was also a tiny little dent on a seam on the pass side front fender that bothered me as well. After an incident involving an over-confident Dad (me) and a heavier than expected Thule toddler stroller in a cargo box, I had a small scratch repainted above the 3rd row driver side window. You can’t tell there was anything done really. All work was done by a reputable body shop, they also wet sanded and buffed the roof as a “while we’re at it” and it looks great.
The windshield was replaced CORRECTLY by the same body shop after a long-existing chip finally spread. I was adamant about making sure they used rivets, not screws and while it was out they corrected any developing rust (which there was VERY little of, they were quite surprised). I know how quickly a poorly done windshield replacement can cause problems, I didn’t want to encounter that.
Known issues:
The driver side valve cover gasket is/was seeping. When Volsar went to replace it, they found the rear-most bolt to be stubborn so they left it/tightened it a bit so as not to risk snapping the bolt necessitating a removal of the heads to drill it out/replace. Because it was such a minor/insignificant amount seeping they said let's just keep an eye on it and if it gets worse, we can start applying penetrating oil for a few days before trying to remove it again. I didn't even notice it at first and it appears to have stopped but I want to be honest and mention it.
All of this being said, it does have 225k miles on it (the last 100k-ish in New England) so please don't expect cosmetic perfection. I believe it is in about as good a shape for the mileage as I've ever seen, but it does have some wear/tear and surface rust on the underbody. I get compliments everywhere I go so I think you'd be hard pressed to find another 06/07 with the same mileage in as good a shape.
I welcome any questions/concerns/requests for additional pictures. I’m not a professional photographer by any means but I’ll try to capture everything I can and can facilitate where needed. Here's a link to some more pics, including some underbody shots and pictures of common rust areas that are actually rust-free on this truck:

Thanks for reading this far! I’d love to see her go to another Cruiser family. It’ll be tough to see her go but the time is right and I’m sure there’s someone out there who will enjoy her as we have! I'm planning to offer here first and then head to either CarsandBids or BaT if things don't pan out here. If you feel the need to comment on price/condition etc., please do so respectfully so as not to turn the ad into a circus. I welcome CONSTRUCTIVE feedback! Without further adieu, pics:
