subtopic display

I took a pic of the subtopic display to make the point (I brought this up before in a different thread). The old forum is on top in this pic, the new one on the bottom. See the wasted space above the subtopic text? Also, in the old forum there was a space after the horizontal bar that's under the subtopic, before the main text of the post starts. IMO it's easier to read that way - maybe I'm just being nostalgic. Hope this helps:

Come on Gumby, if I can figure it out......anyone can. Now where are those damn :flipoff: smilies. I know - they're coming. hehehe

ok, mostly it works fine and kudos for all your efforts. Small comments

unless this forum is based in the middle of the atlantic (e.g., one hour west of GMT) the clock on posts is wrong.

I don't like the small underscore between the end of the message and peoples' tag lines. I keep reading tag lines thinking they are part of the message and wasting valuable milliseconds. Can we move it to a separate box underneath?

oh yeah, search works unbelievable well. Gresat job.

semlin - set your time zone in your profile area if you haven't already. Mine in PDT is just fine. Is your computer clock correct?

ah, thanks Brent. Now if I could just find the link to my old avatar i'd be set

you can find your old avatar by reading the ANNOUNCEMENT in every forum, checking the old forum, right-click/save-as to desktop for your old avatar, then reupload to here. Drag your PM/s from there, or memorize them, cause it will vanish on/about July 1.

the underscore and sig lines will be updated, at least to the bottom of the message box, and not immediately under the post/reply. there IS a hack for that, and I'll run it this weekend.

good point yooper...like the date over there better too...will see what I can do with that.

ALL of these go on a list to address this weekend....when I'm not busy pulling the motor from my motorhome...lol

(we hope...)

Gumbay...fixed, about 3 second ago....forgot to correct the "supermod" settings...

try it now

Ooh! "Mark as Read" works correctly now!
W00H00!!!
That was actually the only thing I didn't like about the old forum software.
"M-a-R" would send me to a blank window, then I'd have to hit "back" and "refresh".
Even with DSL and a relatively modern system it'd take about 30 seconds to mark a
thread as read.
Now it takes about 5. :)

The new format looks really nice. There are some subtle features that I'm begining to notice that are really nifty.
Two small bugs I've noticed are:
- The little circles next to the section headings on the main menu that light up when something new has been posted in a particular section seem to be a little off. Sometimes they stay lit up, even when there is nothing new. Other times they are dim when they shoudn't be.
- When I logged in just now the "New" tags next to individual posts were are all gone, at least on the Tech section.
Thanks for the time you're putting in on this, it must be a real pain.

I have noticed the same thing. The "NEW" markers and the colors of the dots next to the forum titles and the colors of the forum titles appear to be almost random. The server is definitely not keeping track of my read posts very well - errors go both ways - it marks some as read that I haven't seen, and marks some as new that I have read. Perhaps with time this will work out, or maybe you need to clean up that database or something. I don't envy you your weekend of pain, Woody!

NEW markers are based on session length, currently set for 15 minutes. Unfortunately, session length ties in with both the "users online" and with the "new indicator" you are referencing. This is an issue that vBulletin has in their programming, and one which has not yet been hacked out. I'm hoping they rewrite their scripts to take care of it...

You can "bypass" it somewhat by using the forum dropdown box and clicking "mark forum read", rather than just linking directly back to the main forum menu.

Forums not showing up???

I noticed the "Vehicles wanted/For Sale" forum didn't transfer yet.

Also, the "vendors" forum didn't transfer yet either. Just FYI.

Oh yeah, in my sig the subscript feature doesn't work. I get [sub] [/sub]. Do I not have something set right?

Just keepin' track of those things of importance...

"vehicles" and "vendors" are corrected....when all the old forums/threads came over, the all defaulted to only show the last day's information...forgot to finish going thru and correcting those to show all info.

the "sub" tag won't work...it's an html tag, and only vbCode tags are allowed.

the TLCA BOD forum and the MOD forum haven't been activated yet....

er...that's the story...yeah....

Woody,

Any chance we can get you to increase the 30 IM message limit?
