"Killer coffee is also being brewed, which after a few cups, I feel the calling to christen my new Trasharoo."

yes. After the campresso effect I felt the need to mod my mod to more accurately reflect what a week of basking in the sun can do to these things!

I'm totally copying that mod!

beno, tipping his Turkish Chariot down the ledges...

Andy whips up a batch of carnitas and (at least I think it was this night) Pablo pulls out a bottle of Firestone Double DBA, the craziest, highest potency beer around. He pours half out for himself, and because the rest of us are lightweights, pours the other half into a glass for passing around.

Think barleywine and whiskey with strong toffee and vanilla flavors. Unreal. You have to know someone to score one of these, and apparently Paul knows a few people, because he pulled another one out later on.

This beer was "epic"!

@ntsaint, here's the .jpg image file I made for my tire cover order (no plans for any stickers at the moment):

We take the spur trail for Lake Canyon, which is a dead end these days. The trail at the canyon collapsed and ends at a still-crumbling cliff.

This trail is slow going. It is sparsely traveled and we have to feel our way along, looking for faint tire tracks and rock cairns, stacks of rocks that mark the trail. We put down plenty of cairns ourselves so we can find our way back.

We reach the end around lunch, and hike to the drop off. As you get to the edge, you can see that the very ground you are standing on could let go at any minute. You can actually see daylight through cracks and holes to the nothingness below.

The views of the canyon below are gorgeous.

The trail caving in is a real blow to the off-roading community. Turns out it was the shortcut to Jarbidge :grinpimp:

We make lunches at the end to eat on the trail. We still have a good ways to go to get to our campsite tonight at the Alcove.

We hope it is empty - it is one of the primo-est spots to camp on the trail and we've seen quite a few tire tracks in the sand on the main trail.

Again, the views are amazing and endless.

Hours later, we make our way up the shelf road leading to the Alcove. The Alcove is actually a little slice of heaven in the middle of an even longer shelf road, the upper, hairier portion we'll have to tackle right out of the gate in the morning.

The shelf roads are barely wide enough for a truck. "Road" is a misnomer, you are rockcrawling, turning lockers on & off frequently, and are constantly being tipped off camber toward a 200' drop-off and certain, painful death.

It goes without saying that pictures and videos don't do it justice. But here's a vertical video of the first stretch. The iPhone tries to stabilize the video and instead of keeping the hood fixed and tilting the horizon, keeps the horizon fixed and tilts the hood, so you'll have to tilt your head and play along. Note the drop off on the right!

You are afforded a breather and a place to park a few trucks before
the next little stretch.

Dear God, that looks sketchy as FAWK.

You can take the flatter route, which has rocks loosely packed into washed out trail (and unlikely to support you), or the high side that beno is taking that is highly off camber and affords you a great view of the drop-off from your window!
