We still have hours to go and stop a few more times for fuel and magic diesel fuel screw adjusting.

We cross into Utah around 11:00.

I eventually fall back into the zombie state, and on one particular stretch of highway that is one high-speed whoop-jump after another, my eyes are bounced around into my head so badly that I am seeing cross-eyed. I have to close one eye to keep my sh!t together.

Sometime after midnight, we bail on the idea of making it to Halls Crossing and we camp at the base of the Bears Ears, leaving only about 45 minutes of travel in the morning.

Meanwhile, the fleet is on the move, making their way to Halls Crossing from all directions...

Paul (@PabloVTA) is on I-40, on his way from Compton. He is likely east of Barstow by now, crossing the Mohave, looking for a place to dump a dead hooker.

This write up will become legend. I just about fell out of my chair reading this!

Sub'd! Loving it so far.

Dude.... Keep typing; Oklahoma is coming up and I'll need a distraction from the boredom :)
Y'all still heading east?

Concrete stayed another night at the north rim with his girlfriend en route to discount tire Friday am in flagstaff for a new set of AT's for the ride home after a cut sidewall somewhere north of arches

I am in Oklahoma headed to the boil :)

That was nice of him to wait for his girlfriend to fly out before having to do his first trail repair of the trip! I'm sure he was just wanting her to have the full experience. She looks excited.

We wake up at the Bears Ears, make some fancy coffee and head toward Halls Crossing.

I need to find a cell signal soon, because I'm supposed to phone in to @desertdude, who is long-distance buying me a 100 series on my behalf in California. I require phone service and Internet so I can wire the money when he gives me the all-clear, and there is none out here at the Bears Ears (or most of Utah for that matter.)

I am crossing my fingers that both are available at Halls Crossing.

We make it to Halls early enough that the guard shack is empty (free entry :grinpimp:), so we sail on through and top off all gas, diesel, and water tanks and storage containers, then head to the campground to claim a spot.

I sorta have cell service, and then lose it, so I borrow beno's phone (different carrier) and head to high ground to call Pasquale.

The next two hours are a blur, but it was the most stressful and confusing time in memory. Long story short, I didn't get the truck and Pasquale was left awkwardly hanging out with the seller while I called my bank and PayPal and Pasquale and the seller, all while the calls kept getting dropped. The seller got cold feet on the $$$ transfer and bailed. It was an ugly mess.

This was not the kind of bad vibe I needed to start an epic trip. We parted ways with me about 50% sure I had my money back in my control.

I head back to the campsite to wash away the stress with an early beer or two and to try and talk Onur OUT OF DOING A FULL FRONT END REBUILD IN THE CAMPGROUND!!! WTH IS GOING ON?!?

He's got all of his tools and parts laid out, his sexy brand new AISIN hubs whispering dirty words into his ears and hypnotizing him into installing them.

I can't talk him out of it, but am at least able to stall him by convincing him to move to a shadier spot. It is bright as hell out here and I am frying. I work in a cubicle and am as white as it gets. My skin is not made for this. I quickly don my floppy hat and long sleeve shirt. I will not be removing them for the remainder of the trip.

Beno, by the way, is having none of this and is stripping down to the bare minimum.

He will run topless, in more ways than one, for most of the trip.

While this is going on, Andy, Steve & Justin are boarding the 11 am ferry from Bullfrog to Halls Crossing...

Yes, beauty there. Cam, what does it say on the perimeter of his rear tire cover? It looks like something snarky and awesome, but i cant make it all out.

Btw, he has a Caterpillar engine under the hood, as you'll hear later.
