Fan died

My heater fan just died suddenly. I looked at the wiring and noticed the power runs through an ancient looking resistor before getting to the fan motor. Are these resistors prone to failure? What voltage does the resistor take the 24volts to?

Using a voltmeter, how can I test this resistor?

I have attached a photo of it, all the ceramic bits are broken.

all speeds don't work or does not turn on at all?

resister usually blows 1-2 of the speeds at a time (mine lows low 1 & 2). I can't say that is it.

I'd also check the switch and the motor itself.

None of the speeds work. The rear seat fan works like a charm though.


I just pulled the "heater" circuit breaker from the fuse box. It sounds like something is rattling around inside it...how can you tell if it's any good and what does it control?

Use a voltmeter, if it overloads its hooped! $60 at the dealer gets you a new one.
