Hi,
Can I add a fan clutch to my BJ42 (84) which has the standard non clutch type fan. I have the new fan (clutch type). Do I need a new water pump for clutch or just the four bolts shown in FSM.

Is it best to replace the water pump in any case while I am at it?

Thank you.

AS far as I know fan clutches free up horsepower at higher RPM's .The air flow is fast at higher speeds so the fan basically does not have to pull air into the radiator,,Fans are designed for slow moving cars to keep the engine cool. UNless your driving a lot of freeway speeds .

Thank you, I will probably just fit a new pump with a clutch as the existing is looking a bit worse for wear in any case. Thanks again

HI guys , gs 60 , i have never seen or never heard a " non clutch fan " on b / 3b engine here in europe , maybe a PO modifications ?

when the clutch is broken a fast and "provvisory" fixing is to "delete" the clutch maybe your case

and i always tought that a deep river crossing without the fan clutch can damage the fan blade ...

Hi Tomio, thank you for response. My 42 with the 3B came from Australia and it looks like factory job with spacer etc. The FSM, below, shows you can have it with or without fan clutch ? It may have had a clutch at one stage, don't know. The reason I want to add a clutch is that I am having great difficulty sourcing a replacement fan (4 bolt version) for the non clutch version. I have a new clutch fan type and was just going to add clutch and new water pump. The existing pump has been in there from new, I believe, so its probably time to change it in any case?
Thanks

yes , the fsm show two 2 style of fan ... (i love ih8mud i never stop to learn !!!)

since your pump is old if you can change it and add a fan-clucth
change the t-stat too

i think the fan clutch style is better for our climate and for deep river crossing too

where from ireland g60 ?

i have a dear friend who live and work near dingle from many years

Hi. I am trying to upgrade my fan to one with a viscous fan clutch for my 1983 BJ42 with the 3.4 3B motor. I purchased a Tru Flow TFC107 clutch and TFB503 fan (which are supposed to be the ones for my vehicle) but the two of them don't fit together (their holes didn't line up). Can anyone tell me what fan and clutch I should get that will fit. Thanks
