Hey Guys, EDITED for broader audience due to cross posting
Life is really getting in the way of planning an event for the officers this year. New business, engagement, house bought, sold, remodeled, etc..
There is an open weekend at SMORR Sept 7-9th, 2018. Let's just email Brendan @ SMORR for whatever camping/cabin reservations you want to make and show up. We can gather around the Big Red Bus or in the pavilion since it is first who comes gets it. As usual there will be some of us that enjoy cooking and sharing what we prepare. No raffle, meal, t-shirt or insurance fees. Just pay SMORR for your wheeling and camping fees then enjoy our time together!
If you don't feel like cooking the SMORR cafe will be open or PM a buddy that likes to cook and work it out yourselves.
No reservation necessary for primitive campsites.
SMORR has great shower facilities, campground and the best variety of OffRoad trails in the area. There is everything from mild to wild and big enough you won't see it all in a weekend.
There are great trout streams nearby and canoe rentals within easy driving distance if you aren't that into wheeling.
Stop by the Big Red Bus or pavilion to socialize with the TAC group. We would love to see you there. Always an empty seat to jump in if you want to experience trails of more difficulty than you want to subject your rig to.
The Fall Crawl is usually the second weekend of Sept over the years.
We have had rainy weekends with Highs in the 70's, lows in the upper 40's to low 50's. Other years it is warm and dry with daytime highs in 90's and lows upper 60's - 70. The elevation in the Ozarks plateau and lack of concrete jungle around helps it cool off quite a bit at night. Not as much night time cooling as Colorado but still pleasant enough to gather around a campfire.
I generally book a campsite with electricity to power my CPAP machine even though I tent camp and if the forecast is for warmer temps bring along a fan. Bonus is white noise. Campsite power is 30 amp RV style plug so bring an adaptor for typical 110v outlet. They do rent/sell adaptors at the office but you can pick one up in the RV section of Walmart for about $5.
There is a row of very mature trees along the south and west side of the RV sites in the campground so these are the more desirable Electric sites. Primitive camping is the other side of tree row so you can even pitch a tent within 50' of an electric site and any TAC member and most non-TAC people will share power with you. Just bring a 3 way adaptor and extension cord.
I am sorry but I promise next year will be fabulous.
If you are hankering for a real organized event I would recommend the following:
Tall Corn Cruiser Classic - Aug 24-26, 2018 at MIOBI in Iowa
Brent Moore and Rob Wicket do an excellent job
Southern Cruiser Crawl - Oct 11 - 14, 2018 at Hot Springs Off Road Park in Arkansas
This is a huge event. $30,000 raised from raffle all donated to charity.
Great people, food and music last year.
Every level of trail you can imagine.
Rendevous in the Ozarks - Oct 19 - 21, 2018 at Byrd's Adventure Center in Arkansas
We had about 10 rigs down there last year. Great trails outside the park and in.
Might be a little chilly to float the Mulberry River that runs next to the campground.
Of course we will still have the
Mike Sears Memorial Run - Oct 26 -28, 2018 at Tuttle Creek Off Road park near Manhattan, KS
Let me know your thoughts!
