I just ordered two Denso O2 upstream sensors 234-4138 on Amazon. The product was described as Denso. I received two sensors individually packaged in a plastic bag wrapped around bubble wrap inside a yellow envelope. The envelope had home printed stickers that said "NEW" Denso O2 Sensor 234-4138.

I returned them and waiting for a refund. In the past, the Denso parts came in individual Denso boxes and the part itself had the "Denso" name and part number etched on the part. The parts I received didn't have any name or part number on them.

Is this a common problem now on Amazon? I was weary of eBay, but now Amazon seems to be selling fake car parts too. I re-ordered from RockAuto. Let's see if that works better.

Lots of scams like that on Amazon and seems to be a growing problem. Worse situation I had was the seller was in China and while I was offered a refund, the return shipping was more than what I paid.

Yes, very common on Amazon and Ebay. Sensors, spark plugs, coils, filters, etc. The counterfeits are everywhere.

Only order from known retailers. I usually go Rock Auto if I'm not getting it locally.

I haven't been hit with a fake on Amazon yet but have stopped short of buying stuff when the reviews indicated the merchandise was clearly a knock-off. eBay is another story - I did get hit there with a counterfit timing belt.

I concur with using Rock Auto or your local parts store. Amazon seems to be getting worse every day with knock-offs and eBay had been bad for a long time. With the shipping situation being so terrible right now I've been getting a lot of parts locally. Even it costs a few more dollars, at least it will be there the next day and not lost in shipping for a week.

RockAuto is pretty good with part authenticity. I've had friends get OEM timing kits for Hondas which were packaged in "OEM" looking boxes but filled with non OEM parts, all from eBay or Amazon.

Oh yea, I’ve started to see this increase on amazon. It’s becoming a plague, another recommendation for rock auto here as well.

In other news the sky is blue and water is wet

Not sure it’s fake or not but I ordered some Luftmeister rear shocks, they were shipped by the seller but the carrier decided to return to seller upon reaching the Global Shipping centre somewhere near Chicago. My problem is that there aren’t many options for shocks for someone that wants to keep the air spring and height adjustment. I ordered through Amazon and there are many reviews, and others have recommends the product on forums too. I don’t know if it an Amazon issue or shipping issue...

By the way, I posted a review on Amazon that the oxygen sensors appeared fake because there’s no denso packaging nor denso brand etched on the sensors themselves.

They rejected my review because I said the parts looked fake. Email says I should focus my review on the features and my experience of the product.

So my review was never posted. So, don’t asume reviews calling out fake parts are posted.

Is there a way to go to Amazon directly to report a fraudulent 3rd party seller? You think it would be in their best interest to crack down on fraudulent use of their website. Either way, it's insane that you'd be expected to install a suspected fake product and wait until it fails prior to posting your review.

If you look on ebay, many times individual Lexus dealers will sell products for good prices. I snagged some Toyota Liquid Gold for $80/gt(!) and it came from an OEM dealership. I'd imagine other parts can be purchased from their own website as well. I tend to get all of my Denso from Rock Auto, but also, made purchases at "TRDParts4U" or "lexuspartsnow"

I too get my reviews rejected when I tell the truth. I suspect it’s a way for amazon to look the other way and still make money.

I’ve ordered from lexuspartsnow, a Toyota dealer and a Lexus dealer online and got some good deals.

It's a big issue on Amazon. They have little QC who their supplier is. Even if you buy directly from Amazon as the vendor you can still receive counterfeit products. Happened a few years ago with Yeti items and has spread to a lot of other items since then.
