Complete with 4sp tranny and case removed it from a 1976 fj40 parts rig I have, still have.
I was going to put it into the troopy. I did drive the fj into the property and shop to remove this and other parts.

Will send an offer in a while....everything spind/moved smoothly? Will this be available for shipping or local pick-up only?

Thank you for your time :-)

yes everything spins...
as far as shipping depends on the offer... I can build a crate pallet for it...

Know that the input collar (the part that slides onto the tailshaft of the transmission) is one of the weak links in the assembly, and it cannot be inspected until removed from the trans and the transfer. The teeth on the inside of the collar were not robust to begin with, and can wear down rapidly.

Its the only aftermarket overdrive unit available for the fj40/45/47...
I inspected it. overdrive was probably pulled from another rig and installed on this one .. everything inside looked fine wasn't by know means brand new.. but it does have a clean bill of sale....

Dear Sir; please can you clarify for me, you are selling the 4Speed with the Fairey overdrive unit or just the used overdrive? And what would shipping to Ontario Canada. Thank you

I have a Fairey OD on a 3 speed tcase that I’d sell if someone really wanted it. I would sell both the tcase and OD. Both work very well and I can provide driving videos to illustrate. I also have the installation manual for the OD. Just PM if interested.

Yes l would be interested, the 4 speed just needs a little more help!
I’m new to this and don’t know how to use this site,
What would you be asking for your overdrive unit and would you be able to ship it to Ontario Canada?
and any manuals that would help!

Sorry, to clarify, just the overdrive unit and shifter linkage

Maybe somebody will correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the ODs are specific for a tcase and are not transferable between a 3 speed and 4 speed OD.

I think you are right coarse spline 3sp, output shaft, 4sp, fine spline output shaft, Some early 4sp had coarse spline output shafts

You are correct. But it is possible you use a three speed transfer case with the sixteen spline four speed if you have the correct internal parts

From what I have seen the 9/72-9/73 had the coarse spline output shaft. The US did not get a four speed until 1/74. Not likely going to find one unless it was from another market. Years ago was working on buying a new H41 with a coarse alpine tail shaft. Issue between the seller and middle man that prevented the sale.

Had some experience with the Fairy OD and one of the hardest parts to find was the four stud used to attach the OD to the transfer case. Was able to get one for $50 years ago. Didn't have the studs. I was able to get them off the cruiser and replace them with the stock bolts. That required laying on hot asphalt during summer in Phoenix. This was many years ago and parts were already NLA.
Should also had that the special piece the holds the piece of the OD on the tail shaft threads is designed as a one time use. Has two folded over piece that go into the last piece and inside gets folded over on the inside to the piece Infront using a punch provided with the OD. Would be sure that is seated correctly. One of the OD I had it had come loose and needed to machine the back slightly to remove the OD.

The record the top photo in the post above is one from a Land Rover. This is what they look like.

Crickey!!!! A 3speed overdrive, just what I've been looking for. I was just about to update my "wanted" thread from a couple years ago. Well, if @JDavid passes up on it, i would like to be next in line. What is your asking price? Thanks for your time and I'll also send a PM =]
