Can the side panels on a 100 series (i.e. the plastic strips) that typically fade on all cruisers easily be painted? Or...?

The center line on mine were faded to silver (about 1 inch wide). I masked off the line, cleaned, lightly sanded and painted them. I used Krylon plastic primer and picked out a Krylon gray from Walmart. Near perfect match. Its tough and durable, still looks perfect 1 year later.

Yep, a lot of those center rub strips/panels fade. I have seen super clean trucks with that piece fading/peeling. Follow the instruction above and they will be good as new.

I'm working on covering my center trim strip with a matte dark gray vinyl. Hoping to get to it this week and I'll post up some pix of the results. Wanted to try something other than rattle can approach for this mod. My strips are heavily faded, knicked, gouged, yucky etc...

You can repaint the whole trim piece but you should use a flex additive in actual auto paint or it will probably crack. The touch up I did with Krylon is good though, just don't put on the coats too thick and clean it VERY VERY good.

I repainted mine using the factory trim color mixed into rattle cans. I lightly sanded the trim and masked it off. Painted a few coats then used an aerosol 2k clear coat. Turned out great. I painted the whole trim piece and not just the small, faded part. It has held up well for the past two years.
