RockDoc sent me a PM a few days ago about a factory Toyota snorkel that came up for sale on Kijiji.
It was from a TLCA member .. Jeff ( i dont know what he is on here though. )
So I called him up and got it yesterday, and installed it today. So I have all the pics and whatnot.
Now.. Jeff said that this was not a " kit " per se, but he amassed all the proper bolts and stuff.. just no instructions so I had to kinda figure it all out. There was a handy Template that made things easy. So here are the pics and install notes.
A huge thanks to my friend at work, Kenny for doing almost everything. Because I know for a fact that I would screw it up. ;)
Now.. Please note that after everything was cut and drilled , all the holes were filed.. and the inside edges deburred. All the exposed metal was primed with a automotive grade Epoxy Primer and all holes, brackets and the entire inner fender was sprayed with Wurth Corrosion Protectant. It is crucial for these steps to be performed.
So here are the parts themselves

Here is our 80 before we start ..

So here is the setup of the template ..

After everything is cleaned up... Epoxy Primer is coated on all bare points

Then the mounting points were added. Instead of using bolts, we used self sealing rivets.

To get out the factory intake out of the fender, remove the headlight. then you can access is very easily. there are 3 nets that hold it all in there. Unbolt the cruise control unit and push it out of the way. there are 2 under that. the other is near the battery. it is located behind a small box called a 'power outlet' ..i just pushed the bracket down and accessed that way. all are 10mm.

Once you have that out, install the part with the cutout, and then the elbow that connects to the airbox. I removed the 3 bolts that hold the airbox down so that you can move it around a bit. this helps with the install of the elbow.

Now the bracket for the top of the neck and the precleaner. after the neck is attached to the truck, We marked where the holder was going to go. then simply riveted it in there. bolt up the rest of the truck that you took apart and your done!!:bounce:

Nice Derek, really has a clean look to it, and the truck does too :)

Holy crap that's a big hole!

Don't want to screw that cut up....

No Doubt that is a big hole.

Can you tell me what type of tool you used to cut the fender?

I bought a snorkel from Jeff also and can't wait to install it. Hope my install goes together as nicely as yours did.

Beautiful Truck!

Cheers,

Cary

Dragging this one back up...

Just got my snorkel from Jeff, and have a few questions.

1. The template has a line to align to the cowl...this is to the leading edge of the cowl, correct?

2. Are there any directions, aside from the anecdotes, that anyone can provide?

What all have you done for the antenna hole?

Thanks,
G

yes.. it is from the leading edge of the cowl.. use the pic above of where it is in relation to the hood line. You can get a good idea from that of where the template will sit. I dont have the template anmore but from what I remember .. the cowl line should match up perfect. always check twice and cut once!!
as far as the antenna, mine is RHD, so the antenna is on the other side ( left side of truck ) and was never an issue .... sorry... cannot give any advice there.
