Did a search but didn't drum up much. Has anyone determined the most efficient way to override the factory reverse camera so it can be used while in drive? Interested in finding a way to do this so I can check on a trailer and other cargo during trips.

Thanks

Couple threads here on this, with no solution. My '00 has an aftermarket Kenwood that I put in, and I like the ability to do just what you are describing. I would like to do this to my '04 with OEM backup camera.

I just spent an hour reading the EWD for the '04. It's not straightforward. There is both a camera and navigation ECU that need 12V from the park/neutral position switch to indicate the tranny is in reverse and activating camera and dash display - but, this same switch supplies a signal to the tranny ECU indicating that it's in reverse... :hhmm: My first thought is to simply jumper around the position switch, but that will send a signal to the tranny (and likely engine ECU) that the truck is indeed in reverse as well as whatever gear it is actually in. I am unsure as to the consequences of this mixed signal to the tranny ECU... this solution would also trigger the reverse lights on the truck and trailer - not something I want to do while in motion.

On further thought, I guess you could put in a switch immediately prior to the nav and camera ECUs that would deliver 12V when closed, and regular reverse signal when open.

As you can tell, electricity sometimes baffles me...

Same here. Thanks for the input though.
