Factory gas and temp gauge wackiness. Any advice?

I know there are threads, but when I search I'm not finding what I need. My headlight switch query was fruitful, so now on to the f-ing cluster!

Along with my battle with my headlight switch I have also been having problems with my gas and temperature gauges. It all started when I had the tub sand blasted, the turd that I paid to do it somehow manages to get that crap into the dash. I have since blown everything out, and everything works fine (the light switch started long before the sand blasting), but my gas and temp gauges come and go. I know that the one feeds power to the other (fuel to temp, I think?) and while trying to tackle this problem the first time I've pulled the cluster apart and checked everything, cleaned the gauges and contacts and put them back in, often still the same thing. I fired the truck up after its 4 month slumber and the gauges are still out of whack, right now the fuel gauge sort of floats around and the temp gauge needle moves a little when temp gauge looks like it wants to have the proper read out. I know there is a bad connection somewhere in there, my questions are:

Am I missing something?
Is there a specific trick to righting these issues?
Should I just throw in the towel and try to find a new fuel gauge and stop messing with these stupid little things?

I know the fuel and temp senders both work and I've tested them and the wiring leading up to the cluster, it's definitely the cluster itself. Before I parked it the gauges would fall in line 75% of the time while driving around. No, I don't want to throw an aftermarket gauge, I want to keep the OG Land Cruiser cluster. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Diagnosing the problem:
It's only the FUEL and TEMP gauges that have problems and not the Turn indicators, High Beam indicator, Back Light and OIL gauge that have problems. right?

If so, it's not a 12V power problem. Can't hurt to clean the ENGINE fuse contacts and replace the fuse.
It's important to understand that the FUEL gauge has a build in Voltage Regulator that provides the 7V working voltage for the FUEL and TEMP gauge.
If this VR (Voltage Regulator) doesn't work correctly you'll have the problem(s) you've mentioned above.
The most common problem is that the FUEL gauge doesn't make good contact to ground. This is critical for correct functioning!
On the back side of the FUEL gauge is a ground lip (bottom) that needs to touch the cluster housing.

Clean that lip and if necessary adjust the lip a bit for good pressure.

Here is a pic of a rebuild cluster. Look at that red square island.
Clean that island to make sure it makes good contact with that lip from the FUEL gauge.

If all is OK, you should do the test procedure with the test light to make sure this circuit works OK.

This worked for mine|

Like the old pirate with the ship's wheel attached to his groin.....AAAArrrgh, it's driving me nuts.

Now fixed and your expertise is very much appreciated.

Thank you!!!!!!
