Rear mounts, doughnuts in the right order? Something is causing the front of the engine to be higher than it ought to be.

Then here of course is the one I got from you Mark. It appears noticeable differences in the upper left corner of space and no rounded hump on top

That's what I originally suspected, and then I considered that if that was the case, the radiator hoses (especially the top hose from the water outlet to radiator) would be horribly misaligned. They are not. In fact, the top hose fits perfectly flat, just as it should.

I’m just impressed we’re two pages deep into this question/discussion. Carry on.....

Based on the pictures of old vs new those are different shrouds. Also, really hard to tell but it looks as though the top of the metal fan blade sits a little above the radiator’s fin section. But it’s hard to tell if the top of the plastic blade is the same relative to the radiator. In either case, there is the hump in the flange of the old radiator that would accommodate this, and I don’t see that in the new one. The depth of the new one is also much less. It still looks like the bottom (as oriented) of the new one has a hump, maybe only slight compared to old one, that is why I was under the impression it was upside down. But if reversing doesn’t fit, and given the appearance from pics that theses are different shrouds, then it looks like you’ll have to get a different shroud. As I start to launch into a new (old) project the lesson for me is to not get rid of what’s being replaced to verify fit/form of the replacement part(s). That of course doesn’t help for missing original parts lol.

I guess I voted, FWIW. Good luck with rest of build. Paul

If it’s helpful I have a stock 66 (fan, shroud, etc) with the F motor sitting on new motor mounts I can get measurements, pictures for u. Just let me know. Bill

That'd actually be helpful, I think we're narrowing this down some. Per a PM Jason got, the 65'-68' shrouds may quite specific, as in you can't run a 69' or later shroud on an F135 engine

Just for reference, Here is a thread that shows a plethora of engine bay pics and the various fan shrouds.

Ah yes, perfect. Without a doubt the shrouds are much different between the old F135's and the newer models. The current shroud looks to be a perfect match for an "F".

Wow- On that photo, the hump is highly noticeable. @65swb45, so you have one of these specific for the ‘66 that I could swap out? Let me know if so. Thank you my friend.

Jason-

I wonder if the water pump was higher on the F135's..

huh...

No- it's just that the fan shrouds were specific for the 'early-68. I think we've solved the issue. Thank you all for the help. I'll need to now track down a shroud thats in @Billsboat 's pics.

Well, something about the F135 design makes the fan sit much higher. Could be the block, water pump, something....

oh man, this thread is bringing up memories of my old orange fan blade. i took @65swb45 advice a put a later model fan and updated the shroud to the appropriate year. this mod is still resto worthy and works on early F motors. yes, i have a f145 in my '67 for those that noticed.;)

Jason-

After looking at @Billsboat pictures, that is exactly what my shroud looked like when i had the original F135 in my '67. I definitely remember the hump at the top.

Hey Jason/Ross, just got my shroud back from the plater yesterday, so it's not on, but here's my '67, from before disassembly. New motor mounts in the front don't look like the originals (they were round), but hopefully they're the exact same height.
