I am lengthening the tongue of a little camping trailer. It maybe will wiegh 600-800 lbs fully loaded. I was thinking about using some 1/8" 2X2 square stock (that seems to be what hitches are made out of). would this be enough for a 5 foot tongue? I need it long nough to miss the cruiser at a 90 degree angle. It will go on the trailer here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/trailer-te...ng-trailer-question-about-wheel-adapters.html I have orderd a new axle for a 6 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern and will use my spare 37s for tires. It will also have a roof top carrier right on top and the roof rack will be moved to a type of rack system higher up. IT will be wide and match m cruiser's track. It isn't very big so not a lot of weight will be in it (compared to larger trailers).

Suggestions on somethign that I don't have to worry about bending but not too overkill?

Thanks it looks like I could go 2x2x3/16 or over kill at 2x2x1/4.

Yeah, I would suggest the thicker tubing, 1/8" over 5 feet will flex like crazy! I would go a bit bigger now and forget about it! Or swap out to a 2x4 in a vertical orientation.

I'd stay with the 1/8" but go with a 2x3 box set on its side(tall up/down) and that should be enough.. 2x2 in 1/8" just isnt enough,, but going to 2x3 makes a big difference.. Its what is on most of the lowes type utility trailers in the 4x8 range.. 2000# trailers..

I was thinking the same thing. might be able to cut t down to 4' but I will go 2x3x1/8 or 3/16 in any event.

Unless you just happen to have a bunch of 2x2x1/8 laying around that you're trying to use, I would go with the 3/16 or 1/4. Better safe than sorry, and you're not looking at much cost difference if you're buying the material.

Hopefully my axle will be ready today or tomorrow. It will look good with 37" Swampers :)
