Greetings!
I have an '02 LC with >225k miles on it. I have a warranty on it - which has been great - but the provider does not do warranties on cars with
About to buy a '03LC with ~180k miles on it. It does not have a warranty. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for warranty companies for high-mileage LC's (or names of companies to avoid).
I am grateful for any thoughts you would like to share.
Many thanks! Alfred

it will be difficult to find a warranty due to age of vehicle and mileage

Alfred, where are you located?

For the price of an extended warranty on an older cruiser (if you can get one) you will have better results by finding a great mechanic (through this forum if possible) in your area and spend the money on preventative maintenance. If there is cash left, set it aside for a rainy day as - there will be a few with vehicles of this age.

I am in Morristown, New Jersey.
And I agree....and am tempted to put aside some funds for the rainy day issues.
I did find one warranty (shieldplus) this evening.....I was going to see if they would approve of my mechanic (who treats my other LC like his own). I am going to check out some of the reviews too.
Also, good idea about the mechanics in ih8mud.....as I will need to find one for the lift kit install - the 2" lift is calling my name....

Don’t buy a rig from your coast and boom...extended warranty. Kidding but referring the the high potential for rust on vehicles out that area.

I’m thinking if anyone is going to warranty at that high mileage (probably not), that they will only warranty the power train (if anything). The power train isn’t what fails on these vehicles - it’s mostly individual components that likely wouldn’t be covered under that warranty (brake pump, steering rack). Can’t think of other things but in any case, for the price of a warranty (likely at least $2k, you can fix any of the two large issues).

Agreed....the whole rust thing can be tough. the new rig is pretty solid. My current one needs some rustbullet.

Very good point! I am leaning further away from an ext warranty now. Thanks for sharing the insight!

I worked for a short time as an agent for several companies selling warrantys and service contracts. Never have I been around people more dishonest, conniving, untrustworthy, vague and secretive in my life. From every single level beginning with the agency I worked for (absolute knumbskull idiot), the companies I represented to the car lot owners. Just a bunch of deceptive liars running a business racket. It is impossible to work in that industry with honesty and itegrity. I tried it unsuccessfully.

I would never recommend investing in an extended warranty especially on a LC/LX. They are one of the least expensive vehicles to own unles you are unecessarily OCD about maintenance.

This is good background/back story to your advice, thanks for sharing. Do you happen to know of any extended contracts you feel are better than others?

I'm fascinated by the success several friends have had with their extended warranties on unreliable luxury cars they have purchased through CarMax.

I once saw a V10 Audi S6 with higher miles pop up on one of their lot for 15k. I admit I was tempted to buy an extended warranty with them and spin the chamber.

Freedom warranty had a contract for up to 200k miles and 15-20 years old. And could be a good deal in only specific and extreme failure situations. They are very unprofessional, dishonest and constantly hiding the sausage. Many times they would say... Altough X is covered under your plan, it is not covered in this instance because X failed due to Y failing and Y isn’t covered.

Too many times there are vague reasons why the companies will not pay. Some reasons were very legit some were very borderline. Another reason is, straight from the horses mouth....”everybody (companies) pays to begin with”. Then when money reserves get tight the paying of claims gets a little more difficult for customers. Hmmmm. Very much NOT cut and dry. I believe Integrity Warranty had a high mileage plan as well but company was started and ran by convicted felons.

Warranty Solutions seemed to be the most professional but still very very secretive about showing their prices. They wanted you to sell yourself and spread it on thick about the products rather than telling the customers what they really want to know like prices.

Except in extreme cases, IMO, it is all a racket. If I was going to buy an extended warranty of any kind it would be at an inexpensive price with no expectations of ever seeing any return or any money from the warranty company.
