I wonder if an ARB would have let him drive away...?

Seriously? No way. yes they are stout, but not that stout. The force has to go somewhere, if it wouldnt have ruined the bumper it would have pushed it into the body, bending the mounts or frame. you need that crushing effect to lessen the blow, imagine the force on the driver if it was not dissipated into the truck.

I'm thinking in favor of the ARB. Is it just me, or was there not enough force to set off the airbag? I don't see it in the pics.

this truck looks like one guy had over here...what was is name...mickey something?

Shoot! that 80's savable. I'll agree that an ARB bumper would have a better chance of a drive away but maybe thats where the other vehical would have suffered alot more damage.
I bought a rolled FZJ80 that looked alot worse then either of these did and drove away. Hope the Navadian is ok.

Was the other car a kangaroo? As it has been pointed out the force has to go somewhere. My 96 had an ARB and it didn't drive away.

With that much damage, in relation to the current value of the vehicle, the repair costs will total it very easily. It could be replaced, the loss of life can not.
