Looking at options for tires with a 2" OME lift. Did a search and found that some had tried 275/70r18 in the past. Looking for the tallest tire possible and this looks to be a great size, and is probably the tallest tire that will fit easily on a 200 with the 2" OME. Any follow-up reports on this tire size?? Looking at either the Nitto Terra Grappler or the dunlop mud.

Thanks!

I have the Nitto TG's in that size. Yes, it's the largest you will be able to go without more extensive mods.

I love them....the only downside that I have found is airing down. With all the weight it now weighs, airing down to anything lower than 20 psi is risky. I usually run them at 35psi on road and 25 offroad. Many say that 25 is still too high for rock crawling, but going down much lower presents problems on articulation (i've had the tire completely squished down to the rim).

I run the dunlops...M/T Maxx Traction (I think Goodyear also has a new one that is similar. They are the same company at the end of the day). The Maxx Tractions are more aggresive than a typical AT tire, but not as aggresive as some MTs. There is generous siping which make them managable in the rain (I have yet to try them in the snow). They are a 10 ply tire, so airing down is a non issue. I keep them at 52psi cold.

I can say that I have only driven 90 miles/hr once, and don't recommend it with these tires, but with the Nittos, no problemo. They do react like a mud tire on road which means you need to alter driving style some. The noise is minimal, but there is a hum.

As a final note, I get oodles of comments on the tires, where as when I had AT tires on, no one seemed to notice. Not that it is of any concern, but people think they are all out mud tires and do present me with comments on a regular basis. The all-aroundness of this tire make them the right choice for me.

One thing to think about with this size tire is that you are going higher than stock, and considerable skinnier. I know it is only 10mm, but it does make quite the difference. I decided to go this route because of the snow and mud that I drive through. If I was in the desert or wheeled in dry rocky areas, I probably would have stuck with stock width and more tread.

How many ply's are the TG's? I know they are a 2-ply sidewall, but just about as thick as the BFG's 3-ply.

How many ply's is the sidewall as well?

52psi! Really? That seems awfully high to me...are they "special" tires that require this PSI?

Are they LT tires? What rating?

When I compared the 285 vs the 275 it was 1/4 inch difference. That means only 1/8 of an inch per side. I felt it was hardly a difference. I would think that the added height would outweigh the width of the 285/65. The LT AT tires are also wider than the stock tire of the same numerical measurement (ie my 275 TG is wider than the stock 285 highway tire).

I want to look more into your tire for my next set (won't be for a while though).

What did you ever do with the TRD rims? Still have 'em or sell 'em?

Maybe I was getting too technical...my tires 'feel' skinnier and taller, can't explain it otherwise. They are great though!!!

Still got the TRD rims. I was going to paint them matte black this fall, and get the tires re-installed (white lettering in) for the spring. That way I would have an everyday wheel set, and a wheelin set.

I've been running this size in the relatively new Goodyear Dura Trac. It too is more aggressive than the normal AT and is a 10-ply. I've put about 9k miles on them in all types of on and offroad terrain. Love 'em! They've been well over 90 mph and aired down to 12psi for some rocky stuff.

I'm pretty sure that the GY Dura Trac and Dunlop Rover MTs are the same tire, or close to the same. When I was sourcing out the Dunlops, one of the tire shops actually went as far as saying the two tires were made in the same plant, just different tread pattern.

The Duratracs look like they would be a great tire for Mud and Snow. Oddles of siping.

i have that size on my 100. Mickey thompson mtz.. great tire... not as noisy at most muds.

Tons of siping and even has that little snowflake symbol. So it should work very well in all that snow we get in Southeast Texas.

Both the GY Dura and Dunlops Maxx have great reviews. The Dunlops are a bit less expensive than the Goodyear if that matters to anyone. ; ) I wonder if the 275/70/18 would fit under a stock LC200. I need tires soon. Maybe I will just stick with 275/65/18 and not push it until I get the truck lifted.

I just looked these tires up and those sizes come with a E load range. That makes it a heavier tire as we all know. Since I don't tow anything, would these make my LC ride more harshly?

Not harsher at all. The Dunlops are a great tire.

Thanks.I wish they came in a 285/65/18 I like the look of a wider tire. Can anyone tell the difference between the the stock highway tire 285/60/18 and a 275/65/18 when comes to size?

If my cruiser were about looks, it would be a 40 not a 200, and probably with 35s. The rig I have now is purely built on function.:steer:

The difference between a 275/70R18 and a 285/65R18 is 1/4". That means that it is only 1/8" difference on each side, and you can only see the outside obviously. I doubt you will be able to tell the difference.

Also, the TG's do not have what I call "side tread" -- that is, tread that runs down the sidewall a tad. I love the look of mud tires that have this. Even some ATs do, but the TGs don't. This makes a tire look far more aggressive.

Which do you guys think is a better tire(Goodyear wrangler dura a/t or Dunlop maxx) or they pretty much same. The Dunlop Looks like it will fit the bill. They have that side wall tread. Hey, iam all about function but if I can have both then I will do it. Kind of like JB's painted grills to match his truck which I will be copying soon. : )
