After 274,000 the exhaust system on my 98 100 has developed a hole somewhere. Given the pounding and salt it has been subject to I can't believe it has taken this long. I'd like something with a bit more throaty growl than the almost silent stock Toyota setup. I am also looking for reasonable price (comparable to Toyota) and rust resistance.

Anyone have recommendations? I expect to get a 200k more out of this truck, atleast as long as I can afford the gas.

Just purchased DT cat back, $525, similar to local shops quotes for stock. Much, much louder. Ended up cutting out muffler and actually installing aftermarket

I just put on a Flowmaster 50 SUV on about a month ago. Its subtle but it has enough volume to be enjoyed without getting annoying.

The DT cat-back is loud on full throttle. It does drone (EMS and DT drone). I installed a Flowmaster 50 and I lost power. The Flowmaster 50 is extremely restrictive and sounds like a sick cat when you get on the throttle. It doesn't have the flow that the DT and EMS systems have. If you have a subwoofer on your computer sound system you will hear the drone.

Most people on here would suggest the DT or EMS exhaust for the significant gains as well as aggressive sound. And they're both within 5-600 IIRC

The DT and EMS catbacks truly are amazing products. I was scared away from them due to the fact I had never had an aftermarket exhaust and wasn't willing to drop around $1,000 ($600ish for the product + shipping and install) on something I might regret. My 50 SUV flowmaster has been perfect for my application and was only $300 out the shop.

I'd like to see where you got your information showing that the Flowmaster 50 is "extremely restrictive". I'm also curious how it sounds like a "sick cat" especially since you posted this a couple months ago in regards to mattjm321s post:

Replaced the stock muffler with a 50 series Flowmaster (kept the resonator in place). Sounds exactly like what I wanted - not redneck loud but you can hear the exhaust with windows down and vent windows open when opening the throttle. Will run a couple of tanks through it to see if it helped fuel mileage at all.

I had the same muffler installed on mine (without the resonator) and it was the best sounding exhaust I think I had ever heard on a 100. It really does fit the truck perfectly. I recently installed the DT CatBack and love it even more, but it is quite a bit louder. The 50 didn't help my MPG's really, it may of netted my .5MPG more, but with rush hour traffic and living in Atlanta, my MPG's are all over the place depending on the time of day and what day it is. It was hard to gauge if it helped.
