I have been looking at exhaust systems all morning. I am looking for an exhaust to make my lx 470 louder. Do you guys have any advice for me on which one to get? I want one that isn't obnoxiously loud but louder than the stock one I have

Doug Thorley for mild sound, EMS for more of a good ol' southern boy sound. I see you are in GA, I have a flowmaster 50 on mine, you are more than welcome to drive it/hear it if you'd like, just to give you an idea on where to start.

three options are Borla, EMS and Doug Throley. I don't think any of them are that loud. EMS is probably the loudest.

So like I said I've still been researching all day, and I am getting pretty familiar with how exhaust systems work. So, to my understanding, the muffler is what deadens the sound, correct? If I were to just get a new muffler, could I then get the sound I am trying to get?

for purely sound purposes, you can do a few things... cut the resonators out and weld in a piece of pipe or chop the stock muffler off and weld in a flowmaster or magnaflow muffler

Don't mean to hijack, but what size Flowmaster 50 do you run? Is it obnoxious sounding? Been considering chopping my stock muffler off for some flows, but can't decide if I want to or not

Wait for robred's test on the DT and EMS setups. Should be any day now.

And one more question. A lot of flowmaster mufflers' inlets and outlets I have found are oval shape for clearance, does that make a difference?

The Flowmaster 50 is very small. Which was the main reason I had it installed. It's about 60% smaller than the OEM. The sound is great, you can't even tell there is a aftermarket muffler on inside. Outside is also a great tone, very mild V8 sound at all times. Not over the top or obvious that it has exhaust, just respectable and reasonable. The one thing I absolutely love is downshifting, the muffler may not be loud on the acceleration side...but when you downshift it's pure cracking and deep bass. I will attempt to take a video tonight. It's always fun when you have a guy in a convertible and you downshift coming up to a stoplight and the exhaust is crackling and gurgling. It's the most aggressive/loudest muffler I think a 100 should have. If you play on rocks, make sure they tuck it up nicely. When I say this muffler is small...it's really small.
