Well the wiring is 99% finished and my 40 turnsover. The next step is to finish the fuel system.

What type of exhaust works well on a 40? Flowmaster? Glaspack? Any ideas or help ids much appreciated.

thanks

Flowmaster Super40 muffler. Can't beat the sound on a 40 IMO. A lot of us in ONSC run them. Glad to hear you are progressing!

Truely the nicest sounding 40 ever. + 1 for that

Edit: I should say the nicest sounding 40 with a 2F in ever

Guess I will go with a flow. Where's a good place to have mount it inder the tub. I was thinking about having it come out under drives side seat. Any ideas?

Curiser is coming along. When the exhaust work is being done my mech is going to fiqure out out how to do the fuel lines.

I need to schedule a hamom (spelling) to help rebuild front and rear axles and brakes.

there is a front axle rebuild kit as one of the prizes for the raffle, maybe you will win it :grinpimp:

Im going to win it! Or buy from whoever does. Is that a complicated job that requires special tools or equipment?

Never done one on a 40 but on an 80 it is simple

Almost identical on the 40 and 80 - simple, but time consuming and messy. Plan for a full day unless you have 2 people going in tandem, one on each side. That includes the time to clean the knuckles and such, as well as make a trip or two to the parts house for cleaner, grease, etc :) I ALWAYS forget something.

i don't mind helping you with it. it might be easier on me if you could bring it to Raleigh as i got most of the tools here. but i might be able to make a trip down your way in mid/late oct.

Anybody want to help me? I will tow 40 to raleigh or charlotte. timeframe wise was thinking oct.

It's a possibility but won't know till I make the schedule for next months weekends

Shop...

Darin I will send you a pm about scheduling this. That would be great. The best time frame for me would be last weekend in Oct or sometime in November. I need to collect parts and parts.

Does anyone have a list of what exactly I would need for this project? Everything from A to Z. Z being worst case senario.

If this works out with people schedules I will definetly provide food and bevrages.

off of the top of my head, i would guess:
a front axle rebuild kit ( has trunion bearings and seals)
inner/outter wheel bearings both sides.
about 6-8 cans of brake cleaner
some medium (blue locktite)
100 count of rubber gloves
6 rolls of paper towels
3 tub's of a good moly bearing greese
some greese for the zerks.
a gallon or so diff fluid. ( what ever you axle holds)
you might want to pickup a gasket for the 3rd member and pull it out for inspection
some safety wire ( as garner40 mentioned)

extras:
how are the brakes/rotors, when was the fluid last changed this would be a good time to flush the old fluid.
how are the u-joints inspect greese then at a minimum.
while you in there how are the tie rod ends.
do you have any bad or damaged wheel stud that need replaced?
maybe a weld on a front diff skidplate.
i can't think of anything else right now.

You will also need the following tools:

54mm Hub socket (I and several others have one)
Torque wrench
fish scale to set bearing preload (if you don't trust the ole' feel method)
brass drift (to get the cone washers to release)
chrome paint (in case Joe is there and you need to make an extended parts run)

Also, I really like the Marlin Crawler inner axle seals. I think others disagree, but I thought I would throw it out there.

It's also a good time to consider upgrading your knuckles to mini-truck (or '79+ Cruiser) that have the larger stud pattern. This would require different steering arms too, due to the change in stud pattern, but if you are going to go SOA or any hysteer in general, you'll want to upgrade those knuckles and have to do this whole process over again then, so think long and hard about your near future plans.
