Matt aka swamprunner sold me some 80 exhaust manifolds which I intend to rehab and install on my 80. My goal is to have them ready for install so I can simply remove my existing manifolds and do the swap.

One impetus for this is to ensure the y-pipe flanges are perfectly prepared for mating to my EMS y-pipe. I also wish to fill the area where the factory donut gaskets were. Lastly, I want to use all new hardware, and already have the gaskets I need.

Looking for suggestions on the following:

  1. Do I have them dipped in some chemical, or blasted?
  2. What preparation is need for the external surface, and what is ideal for a coating? (Not looking to spend big bucks on a coating)
  3. Any suggestions on Triangle-area places to clean them up would be appreciated.

Do what Sam did on the set he got from me. Blast and then ceramic coat to help keep heat down...... Since they are off i'd go that way.

wish i would have known before I sent it to you...I've been doing some of my personal stuff with techline coatings. Seems to be really good stuff. I did a manifold several months ago and it still looks like the day I put it back on the truck. Check out Welcome to Techline Coatings for more info. Uses seem endless. I know the guy that is co owner of the company. We've started doing stuff for Grave Digger and a couple other local racers in our area. If anybody wants to try one of the products out let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Hpc/jethot is HQ'd in Burlington. They are not cheap but are from what I have read the top of the line for ceramic coating.

They just relocated to the old Regent Lighting building off of exit 147. I talked to them when I had casey's 40 and they were really nice...but expensive. You could save money on shipping though :meh:

If you want me to do this for you, Eastwood is having a sale (ends tomorrow) on the High-Temp powders.

High Temp Powders - Powders - Powder Coating

One 8oz bottle is more than enough. I've got some satin black but not sure if I have enough. Choose the color, order and we can arrange when...
