I had my exhaust manifold gasket changed. Both manifolds were machined together, but under load I still hear a slight exhaust noise but only under load. Incidentally, these were replacement manifolds machined beforehand so the repair could be completed without waiting for the machine workwork to be done. I had this work done in New England. Recently, I took my 60 to a local dealership with a top tech. He drove the truck and then put it up on the lift. He found the leak at the end of the manifold where the heat riser shaft ends. Clear indication of black residue on the sensor post for the carb fan. We ordered what appears to be an end cap from the Toyota schematic, but it is slightly too big. The part I received is the same for all 60's. Question: Has anyone had to deal with this issue and how did you deal with it? The noise is slight but bothersome. Suggestions, traditional or otherwise, will be appreciated. No, I'm not going to go for a new manifold. The reason I did not not have the manifold gasket work done locally is that no one would deal with it or those who would wanted at least a $2000. cushion. Thanks, N.M.

Not sure I'm completely following your post.... Are you saying you (or your tech) found a leak between the manifolds at the heat riser? Is #12 below the "end cap" you refer to (pic from SOR website)?

A common source for the noise you're hearing is the tube that runs from the back of your manifold to the EGR cooler. Here's a couple of threads that address this:

Hope this helps

The way I read the description I'm inclined to think (w/o knowing for sure what it is) that it is No. 70 being referred to. A cap or a plug or a bushing for the heat riser shaft's hole.

70 I think it is. The toyota numnered part does not fit properly: too large a diameter. I am going to try a 3/8 inch copper pipe end cap by tapping it into the opening. If it fits, it will go around the shaft.

I would be interested in knowing how this turns out...could you post a pic for us to see.
