Recently started smelling fumes and the exhaust got really noisy. Found out is was a crack right at the Y-pipe junction on the Exhause headers.

The 96 has inline headers, so the exhaust header is a one piece unit that joins at a y. I had it welded, and I'm sure it will hold for a while. However -

Does anyone know of an aftermarket source for this exhasut header pipe? or the best price for the OEM? shopt was telling me $900, and this seems pretty steep.

thanks

Oh - I also had a Flow Master muffler put on. Makes the V-6 sound really beefy, but now I am finding it a little annoying on the highway. any way to get the old quiet running back?

thanks

Casey,

First off -> welcome to our little corner of cruiserdom :flipoff2:

Secondly, the 96 80 has an "Inline 6 cylinder" engine, rather than the "V-6" variety

The OEM pipe is expensive, and the only options are purchasing a new one, having a muffler shop weld the crack (which you have done), or have the shop build you a new one.

To get it quite / less rumble would require a resonance chamber, or different muffler

Looks like i have the same leak where you have...how much did they charge you to weld that particular leak ? hopefully this will fix the leak and not sound so bad.
