I took off my down pipe to replace a leaking gasket and found that there are 3 gaskets. The small inner gasket, which is the one I got from autozone, then there was an outer gasket, and the 3rd looks to be an insert with a really crushed gasket. When I look for these additional 2 gaskets on all the parts retail websites, none of them seem to show anything other than the small inner gasket. I have even looked on SOR's website and examined the diagram and it also only shows the small inner gasket. The insert piece seems to be bent up and not round anymore, and the gasket that was around it is complety crushed, the outer I could re-use but do not want to since I already have it out. Does anyone know where I can get these replacement gaskets? What is the inner insert and crushed gasket for. I have attached pics, hopefuly they are clear enough for people to know what I am describing. I am removing my cat. Does anyone know where I can buy the triangle flanges to weld to a straight piece of pipe?

That doesn't sound right....what vehicle are we talking about here? 60 or 62?

should just be one gasket on the downpipe. none of those look right. last picture right side looks closest

SOR has the flanges, but they're like $30 each, at normal price. You might take the CAT into a muffler shop and see if they've got something cheaper.

Could you post some pix of the exh manifold hole and top of the downpipe to see what's going on... What you have has been kludged.

I just replaced these along with the EGR gasket chasing an exhaust leak. Both the manifold:down tube and down tube:cat gaskets are flat gaskets similar to the last picture above gasket on the right.

I dont get it! It is a 1987 fj60. It has the 2f motor, the oem intake/exhaust manifolds, and oem down pipe. In the last pic showing the 2 round gaskets the one on the right is the one I got from autozone, the larger of the 2 was on the downpipe when I took it off. I have an old topend sitting in the back of the cruiser, and it still has the manifold on it. When you put the 2 round gaskets into the opening, its very clear that they are both meant to be there. I will try to take more pics after work.

I used two different sized gaskets, but it was one gasket at each end of the down tube. These are shown as 17410B and 17451 in the schematic above. On each end the exhaust pipe penetrates through the flange a little bit. Each gasket fit tightly around the pipe (the OD of the pipe was the same as the OD of the gasket.

take what you have into autozone and ask them to let you match your own flange gasket or to assist you in finding one.

I just found out their system does not always cross refernce to other makes and models.

You should find a gasket there with 5 minutes of hunting.

They might try to say no we dont have it but insist on them trying to match one up

or just go to toyota and spend the 10 bucks.....
i never trust autozone and the likes computers. they've shown vehicles of mine to have pcv valves that do not have pcv valves etc..

true if toyota has it go for it.............but there is nothing wrong will felpro however if the proff is in your hands today and its only 6 bucks there is no harm

i wonder if the felpro is better. like the manifold gaskets are

x2 I'll second that after doing so last fall on my 84. 82 look the same as well. Done with Toyota's.

I was able to take a couple more pictures. Here is what I have. The new gasket doesnt fit over the pipe that sticks out past the flange. The pipe is the same size as the metal ring of the gasket. Hopefuly these pics will help out.
Pic one- New gasket
Pic two- Old gasket
Pic three- new gasket in the manifold

hhmmmm... well that's definetaly not as mine was. Your first photo would be correct for me if it dropped over it. Bam, bolts right up. I wonder two things. One, if somebody didn't do a little mod just because they had 'the parts'. Or two, if as above... or not they put in a crush ring. My muffler shop here let's me just have at his parts if I need to, cool guy. Go check with one in your neighborhood with parts in hand that you pulled off and just stick new one's back in. This just my opinion. You'll get'er.

Edit by Dan. Ya know. Looking... into you exaust, it looks like a small diameter to me... the exaust pipe itself, down in there. ??

So the gasket needs to slide over the pipe that extends past the triangle flange, correct? So pic three is not correct then, because that gasket is smaller than the pipe and therefore the pipe and gasket would not fit there. So I just want to be clear, all I need to do is find a gasket that fits snugly aroud the pipe sticking out, and reinstall into the manifold, and tighten screws?

Ya... that sure seems right to me, your photo two in the middle, around the pipe and within the flange.. I'll see if I've got the package number it came in tomorrow, but I am sure it is the number as shown on the exploded diagrams you have from Toyota, # 174108. I'll try to post it here by 1:00 pm or so. (I'm always up late at night). I usually keep track of all parts I use for future ref's.
