I have been experiencing a lot of vibrations coming from the transfer case shifter lately. I noticed it the other day when I was driving and heard a pesky buzzing noise coming from somewhere. It took some time to finally locate it but I concluded it was the shifter. It is RPM dependent - the more I press on the gas the worse it vibrates and the louder it gets. At a complete stop the vibrations are less but definitely still there. If I hold onto the shifter while driving, the vibrations go away. When I say this is vibrating I don't mean a small shake every now and then. It feels like one of those at-home massage things my girlfriend would use and I can barely hold onto it going down the highway without my hand slipping off. It seems like its always rattled a little especially when I put my glasses next to it, but never has it been audible. I'm guessing they all aren't this way (although I could be wrong) so does anyone have any ideas?? Any input would be much appreciated!

Have you tried shifting into LO-range then shifting back into HI? Mine definitely vibrates but doesn't vibrate enough to make me concerned.

The actual shifter shaft does vibrate a lot. If it's making a noise, try removing parts one by one around it to isolate the noise. Start with the knob, then the center gear shift console trim & cup holder assembly.

I remember reading a post that somebody had noise coming from the TC shifter. It turned out to be the rubber boot under the leather boot that was vibrating. Take the console out (in FAQ) without unhooking anything and stick your hand under while someone else drives and see if you can isolate it. Hope this helps.

I was worried about my transfer case shifter having a high frequency vibration that also increased with RPM. It hasn't revealed itself as a rattle, but definitely makes noise on the boots at times. I noticed it about 15K miles ago. My friends TC knob does the same. I can't imagine the vibration being harmful, but it worried me when I first realized it. Good luck with this.
