Hello all, Im attempting to solve some issues with my recently purchased '76 40. most annoying is the constant oil leaks. I was chasing these today and messing around with the PCV system and discovered this issue, in this video im blowing through the PCV hose barb on the valve cover. Keep in mind this is a brand new lifter cover gasket.

When I disconnected the PCV vacuum line from the intake manifold oil sputters out of this hole and pours out of the base of the distributor. IN addition cylinders 5 & 6 burn lots of oil, im convinced this is valve stem seals and I have the parts to complete.

All cylinders show 150-155 PSI hot, and Ive completed the following in the past 4 months, Manifold gaskets, intake to carb gaskets, carb clean/ light rebuild. fuel system back to OEM pump, oil change, new plugs, set timing to 7*, PCV valve/grommet, and did a valve adjustment.

Is the opening/ passage in the tube screwed into the intake manifold, that the hose from your PCV goes to clear or is it clogged solid with carbon deposits? Gotta be able to go full circle. Fresh air into the hose between the valve cover and air cleaner, mix with blow by gases in the crankcase then be drawn through the orifice in the PCV by manifold vacuum into fuel/air mixture to be burned.

Side cover gasket leak....get a Fel-Pro....the OEM gaskets delicate. Use the Lightest Coating of gasket sealant as possible. Get the Fel-Pro from AutoBone....there prices are the best.
