I have everything I need for my first (and the cruiser’s) transmission drain and fill. But, my local Toyota shop mailed the crush washers via usps and it appears they got lost.

So my question is… how important are the crush washers? 🫢

I’m thinking I do the job with the old crush washers and then keep an eye out for leaks. Plus, it’ll give me a reason to do another drain and fill in the near future.

Those washers are the only seal on the plug. Whether you can safely reuse them depends entirely on whether or not they were crushed beyond reuse that last time they were installed. I have a hard time believing a dealer doesn't have these in stock.

1 - It doesn't have to be the OEM t0yota washer, any right size crush washer for oil will do.
2 - If you have a copper washer, just heat it in a gas flame until glowing, and re-use. That will soften the copper and make it malleable again. (Don't melt it - a simple gas flame can just about melt copper, with some patience)

So I went ahead and reused the crush washers. Maybe the ones I ordered from Toyota will magically arrive one day. I will report on how it goes in about 5k miles and planning on replacing then, unless I see leaks.

You would not believe, I had the same aluminum washers on the hilux diffs for years until I come across these forums that scared me to get new ones, which I did but I still use the old washers and so far no issues.
