Matt,

HowZ it?

Word, You are deff. right on track. I'm in the Navy and was stationed at MCB Kaneohe and stationed in SD.. and there is a USMC reserve base in Eugene.... My Bad, I'm kinda glad. If you were I figured that you and Knolly would be talking mad S*&t to the navy guy......

ND

ND,

Where you stay? No worries man, plenty of friends in all the branches here. The Navy guys do get the brunt tho...

Ah but our meals and ride are ultimately optional. Water and ammunition, that's all a Marine needs, water is ultimately optional and bayonets never run out :grinpimp:
LoL, sure they do (they require hydration and blood sugars .i.. ..i.).

Definately look forward to seeing your rig Matt, I've found a few pics you've posted of it (inside in the back). With what I've seen that you've done it looks like its got a lot of thought in it (with that air hose you could fill my tires up quite a ways away ; ).

Dark,

Ya back 3yrs ago I was pretty heavy into the MUD Board and my rig. I have a few goodies not listed in the sig line... I cant tell you this the rig is purpose built, utilitarian. I had a chance to come to Hawaii and left the rig behind in moth balls. Over the summer I just drove her cross country to NJ from CA to avoid paying the storage on her. My oldest buddy who i've known since I was 10 owns a diesel shop and a farm. So the choice was made to drive her back there and let him have custody. No rent, and tons of room for my collection of 4BT parts. That swap has been in the works for years...

Now the question is to keep her in NJ till I can swap, or drive her back and figure a way to get all my "junk" out here with her...

-Matt

bring her and the junk- the ARB dealer/bike shop I was telling you about is a diesel conversion/tinkerer's dream. when you do get to town for more recon I'll introduce you to the owner -he drives a 2wd dodge w/6bt and stuff;)

not sure what it would cost to have the thing trucked here from there, but I see lots of small scale car-haulers on the interstate these days running basic dually's with 3-4 car trailers.

Another thought would be to drive it back and rent a uhaul trailer to tow your diesel parts back with you.

Here's my experience with the shipping process:
March 2005
Canoga Park, CA to Medford, OR
Toyota FJ60
$400.00
by Wayne Webster business

Not knowing anything about cruisers he thought it was "the small one". And would have charged more for "the big one".

Tim thanks for the the lead... It looks like the next recon mission will be the 1st week of Dec... I need to square that up.

One person posted recently that he got his 80 hauled from Texas to somewhere in the north-east (New York? Maine?) for $600.

It's actually surprisingly cheap, it may be the same cost as plane tickets and gas.

You *MAY* be able to also do it via train. Amtrak will actually ship vehicles, but you may need to put small tires and stock springs to meet the requirements. IIRC I once had a conversation with a buddy about it, we decided it was doable as long as you didn't have anything that stuck out too far, stock springs, and very small tires.

Dark,

This was my thought... not sure how much weight those U Hauls can handle, those 4BT's are heavy lil buggers... I could prob get the swap completed by spring with a few more parts and a few trips back east... like I said my buddy runs a big rig diesel shop so plenty of room... The down fall is the madden voyage is coast to coast... Hummmm maybe i will bring here out and do the build in OR!

-Ebag,

Thats is an idea... See over the summer I weighed it all out. My buddy number one customer is a cross country car hauler, he does all the service on the fleet. So i could have had it hauled out, but gas, hotel, ect made it worth the trip and the experience alone... We did it much faster then i wanted, 4 days coast to coast with a few stops even, Slee and Profitts in CO. But i wanted to swing through Moab, and take a much less direct route.

Was thinking the way back might allow that, but pulling a u-haul might not be a good idea.

I guess i have some planning to do.

Whats a thread without pic's

Forgive me its been three years so not many trail shots...

1st Pismo

If you drop the uhaul for the day with a local TLCA member for example and make a day run of Moab you'd probably be alright ; )

Now ur thinking Dark.

Awesome 80 :D

FWIW I had mine hauled from Denver, CO to Medford, OR door-step to door-step for $600. Cheaper for me than taking the time off and was more of recovery to get my truck back from an ex. (I realize you have more than just a truck to haul back)

Keep us posted. :D

That's a sick 80!! Dig it!

Sweet ride! Boy I did not need to see that, hmmmm I thought my 80 was close to done :D

Yeah, I'm a little sad for ya G Double ... may be a new big dog in town ...

ShootZ Bradaha,

Shoootzzz,

I'm over in Valley of the Temp, but I'm always in the Kailua hood... Cruising Lani's and Kalapawai for some grinds!
