Hey gang,

This gps is on sale at Canadian Tire next week and I've been looking for a cheap GPS for the laptop in the truck. My old man has the Etrex vista which is a real nice unit. I really like the altimeter myself. This came up and I checked it out...it doesn't do mapping so the Garmin site says. However, on other sites people say you can map with it if you tweak it or something. By mapping, I mean you load road maps onto it.

Just wondering if anyone has the summit here and has done this road mapping on it. Its on sale for half price next week so I'd like to pick it up if it's any good.

Cheers
Geoff

I have the "venture"

I think it's similar to what you are talking about. On mine, I do have the "breadcrumbs" option, but no mapping. I need to hook it up to a laptop to get it to read on a map. It's real slick when I've got the laptop (loaded with the maps from CD-ROM) strapped on the Pass. seat and I can get real time mapping in a big screen.

HTH...

I have the eTrex Legend ($99) and am very happy with it. The altimeter is cool and since I rarely use it for more than an accurate compass it's perfect for my use. I did load it full of maps using a discontinued Garmin CD that includes backroads, lakes, streams etc. Can't beat it for the price.
