If you want better MPG go with ethanol free gas. If you want top HP in most conditions go with ethanol blended gas.

Hmmm.....what? HP is (roughly) torque X rpm. Ethanol has about 70% of the energy in gasoline. Torque comes from the power of each explosion in the cylinders, which seems to me will be less for all conditions with ethanol blends? By the time you get to E85, there isn't going to be nearly as much power available, but I don't have a comparison torque/HP curve readily available so I can't be specific.

My statement wasn't referring to this since it's well known that gasoline has higher energy per volume than ethanol.
