Essential tools in a 100?

In addition to all of the other items listed, I always like to have hard liquor and a large caliber hand gun at my disposal in the event of any "true" emergency :)

Seriously, the biggest issue is storage. I carry a rocket box on top when I am on the road and have a ton of room for everything - including a 5 ton floor jack and an air compressor.

Daaammmnnn, how do you wrestle that floor jack up there? Can't be fun...

While I may not always carry a large caliber handgun in the truck, I do sport all of my spare fuses and bulbs in a nice plastic Glock 21 factory case (not the newer clamshell cases, but the old style with the Tupperware lid, fits perfectly in the door side pocket). :grinpimp:

Truth is.... jumper cables, first aid, and if I am packing the kids, which is more often than not.... DVDs... gotta keep them off my case and quiet!

You carry all that schidt every day on-road? Damn.

I have the essentials for a trail repair - or at least band-aid - in a tupperware container that I throw in the truck if I'm going wheeling. For daily driving, I take my cell phone and I keep a small container (shoebox size) with screwdrivers, a set of metric wrenches, pliars, a tow strap, and some fuses in it. If I can't fix it with those, I'll use the cell and get someone to pick me up or just get it towed. I just don't see any sense in carrying 500#+ of "gear" for driving on the pavement in civilization. These things are already gas-a-holics, they don't need any help by carring all that extra weight. Hell, I even take my 3rd row out when we're not planning on using it to reduce the wieght some more. Every little bit helps.
The problem I have with one kit for this and another for that is that I always manage to not have the right stuff at the right time. IMHO you should make up the tool kit for your truck and leave it there all the time.

Another thing to consider, even when you have the option of calling AAA sometimes it's faster and easier to just fix the problem on the spot than have your truck towed.

BTW the rig already weighs a gazillion pound, do you really think cutting back 50# will make a difference? And I doubt my tool kit weighs 50#.

yep, second the "floor jack" and air compressor. We call the floor jack a trolley jack over here. Add to the list a fire extinguisher. I also carry an axe and wood splitter and a cigarette lighter (i dont smoke) and a local product here called Sure Fire Gel which will light even wet wood.
A few torches and jumper leads and recovery gear as i have had to winch myself out of getting bogged twice by myself.
hmmm love to be allowed to carry hand guns, but we have damn strict gun laws over here. Going for a gun licence this week so i can buy a .22 rifle and a shotgun. My uncle, a farmer and gun fanatic, will help me with that as he knows all the laws. Not going expand on that one :-)
cheers

A ball joint puller.

You can't do much with the front suspension without it. You can't get the CV's or take the front diff out.

A bottle opener :grinpimp:

Actually a brass hammer works better than a ball joint puller. A good wack to the side and they pop right out. One thing people have forgotten is the big sockets to fit the front suspension. I never carried 22 and 24mm sockets in my other Cruisers but I do now.

1. Beer
2. Cash
3. Elvis CD

Figure I can trade any of the three and get anything I need in any of the seven continents. (like a tow to the nearest Lexus Dealer ;p)
