I think it is time to have a big flatbed trailer to haul stuff. So I think an equipment trailer is the way to go. Thinking 3- 6 ton dual axle.
I know little about these and thought this knowledgeable group could help me pick the right unit.
I will pull this with my Tundra so elec. or surge brakes.
Money is an issue plus it won't be used daily so a used unit is likely.
They seem pricey in my are where they age quickly due to weather.
What advice can you give and what do they go for in your area?

One thing I can tell you is to check to make sure the frame is not twisted. Put it on a level area and check corner and mid heights. Equipment trailers are often overloaded and abused. Car haulers are no better.

Ask to pull the trailer and make sure it pulls straight. Check wiring to see if everything works. Check welds on all structural connections, especially axle hangers and tongue areas.

What are you hauling? Do you want bumper pull or gooseneck? Heavy equipment auctions are a good place to buy one. Sometimes new at cost of used.

Check tire wear patterns and shackle bushings on a used trailer.

X2 on what reevesci said

I will go with pintle or ball. Would not expect a gooseneck unless it was long or heavy duty. which I don't want. Reg. depends on its capacity and I could not get DMV to give me a price unless I had the trailer paperwork in front of me.
I heard the tilt beds were the most problematic. Rented one with a bobcat and it was easy to load/unload.

I ended up with a project tilt bed. The wood was rotted and the light holders are all bent up. With the bed off, I see that a couple of of cross beams are missing and a couple of welds are cracked.
