Alright, i am in the search for a nice land cruiser to accommodate my growing family. There are two contenders that i am considering. One is a 2004 about a mile from my office listed at 19,995, the other is an 2006 about 4.5 hour drive away for 22,500. Both have 112k miles, but the 06 also has a non factory dvd player and ahc. While having the extra power would be nice, i dont need it. Neither have had the 90k service done, but both are willing to work it into the price.

Any thoughts on which would be better? I dont particularly want to drive if i can get a good price on the local one, but the extra features would be nice.

The best one is the cleanest one, no accidents, with the most comprehensive service record and no rust. I would gladly drive 5 hours and have even driven 12 hours to pick up a cruiser.

Good, clean TLC's are hard to find.

The AHC will potentially cause issues down the road, especially if you want to lift the truck with non-hydraulic suspension.

With that being said, the 06 will have an updated look with the front end and rear tail lights. I think the 06-07 Land Cruisers are the best looking 100 series yet in stock form.

I would agree that the 2006 look nicer, but its subtle. If I hadn't been researching them for months, I don't know if I would know the difference (with the exception of the spoiler of course). The 2004 is really clean, and the lack of the AHC system would be nice for future lifting purposes, not to mention its just one less thing to break.

I'm going to make an offer on the 04 today. We'll see if they want to play ball.

BTW, thanks to everyone for an insanely helpful forum. I have spent entirely too much time here reading threads.

I concur. Whichever one was taken care of the best is the one I would go with. If they are both in absolutely the same pristine condition, I would get the 2006. All of the subtle updates on the 2006 definitely make it the best looking stock 100.

Just as a data point for you, I bought my '03 earlier this year from original owner for $18K. It had 88K miles and full service history, but 90K wasn't done. It needed tires and windshield. No body rust especially in the rear clam shell (common here in New England) and typical surface rust on the undercarriage. I looked at several LC's and this was the best condition and the best price considering the low mileage. If the '04 is in excellent condition and you can get few $$ off for 90k service, I would pull the trigger.

I wouldn't avoid the '06-'07 because of the AHC. In my area, cheapest '06-'07's were north of $25K with 100K+ miles, and I didn't want to spend that much. My only problem is I love driving it so much, it's quickly becoming my DD and gas is $$$. Going to put my Accord V6 up for sale so will have lots of gas money :) Good luck and let us know what you do.

I just pulled the trigger and am now the proud owner of a 2004 Land Cruiser with 112k miles. I had looked at two others in the area the same year, and this one was by far the nicest. They also are throwing in the 90k service and repaired the air conditioning. I got a decent trade-in on my 2010 Xterra Off Road, so that helped too.

Now the fun begins. I already have tires picked out (275/70R18 Duratracs, had DTs on my Xterra too) and have been researching lifts, the stereo bluetooth modules, roof racks, and all sorts of other fun things.

If anyone is interested, I can post the link to the 2006 I was looking at. Its north east of Detroit in one of the suburbs at Szott Auto Group
