Imagine my surprise when I turned the ignition switch off and my 84 FJ40 just kept running. Could this just be a problem with the key switch? What else would cause this?

Was any work done on your truck right before the issue started, or did it happen out of the blue?

Check too see if idle solenoid is blocking fuel flow to carb with key off. Check voltage to idle solenoid. problem is either ignition switch or idle solenoid and possibly to high idle speed.

When it does that again (assuming it hasn’t been running for three days) unplug the ignition switch. If that does the trick, I’d change the switch and consider myself lucky.

Too many have had a faulty switch cause the starter re-engage the flywheel at speed, with disastrous consequences to both.:eek::eek:
