Hello everyone, i am thinking about buying a 89 BJ75. The problem seems to be finding parts for the engine. Would a 1HZ & 5spd fit in without having to make motor mounts? Thanks

Location, location, location... (where are you located?)

Parts are NOT a problem for any Land Cruiser.

I would still like to install a 4.2L because i will be able to get my hands on a engine in a few years. I just heard people say it is hard to find parts for the 3.4L. Sudbury, Ontario is where i live.

Great, now put that in your signature file or in your "edit your details" under "location".

The 1HZ or 1HDT is not going to be an inexpensive conversion. First, you need to get an engine and transmission... They are out there, but you have to keep your eyes peeled and jump on the opportunity when it comes up.

There are no parts that are hard to find for the B series. They are all still in production. It's a myth that Crushers likes to perpetuate. A few of the vehicle (electrical) parts can be a bear though.

You will almost certainly have to weld on new frame brackets for the engine mounts.
Now if you have a few years to wait for the new engine to appear,it gives you plenty of time to track down the frame brackets.
I got some off a wrecked HZJ75 and cut them off with a grinder and chisel.
The rest is a cinch;)

However, most parts for the 3B are in abundance(just not from Toyota)

John,
when was the last time you went to buy a votage regulator? glow plug controller? 13BT fuel return line?
2H head?, factory head gasket? H55F for behind a 3B? H55F for behind a gasser? Edic motor?

the parts are rare to non-existant. it is NOT a myth, it is a reality that is blossoming into a nightmare for some already.

i would run the 3B till you needed a non-existant part then install the newer engine but budget for the swap in the meantime.

Oh, you're playing mean... :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

Voltage regulators - can be replaced with an electronic unit for not much $$. I keep one or two here for this use. 12V and 24V for external or internal.

GP controller - kind of spendy new, and there are few good used ones out there. Wilson switch and a solenoid works better in any case.

2H head... haven't gone shopping for one lately. I expect All Head has them. Just checked, yes, they are available. Gasket kits in stock - Diesel Power brand (which are much like the classic gaskets).

2H/2F/12HT H55F transmissions - reconditioned units available. Good used low mileage units in stock. I have several 3B units in stock, all with higher mileage but shift okay.

EDIC motor - I have quite a few in 12V and 24V. I haven't gone looking for new units, as the old ones seem to last and last.

The worst part to find (unless you own a bank) is the EDIC motor controller / relay box. I am looking at reproducing or rebuilding these if I get enough demand.

The one thing that I do not like at all about the 1HZ, 1HDT and their kin are the crappy rotary injection pumps. I will take an inline over one of those any day. 99% of the issues I am seeing with injections pumps has to do with rotarys.

okay, you and i can get something to work in place of...
but what about the bloke in back water Quebec or Ontario or Saskabush etc that doesn't have the knowledge or the ability to rework something to make it fit....

anyway, it comes down to replacement parts are going obsolete even faster as the years pass. we really need to do a sticky on parts that are obsolete sometime.

as for rotory pumps, agree (but i like the quiet operation, better fuel mileage and power so i will live with them)
<and the PZ will start to have part issues in another 10 years>

it comes down to what is good for the customer, how long they REALLY own the unit and whether an investment now is good advice or waiting till they really need it.

<this is not to say John doesn't have good advice, he does. we just have different opinions on the same issues>
