Hello fellas,

I am working on a project. I usally lurk the 40 and HC forums but today I am here researching FJCruiser engines. Sorry if the questions are a little vague. I am not sure what specifically I am looking for yet.

Can anyone point me in a direction for builds or threads with FJC motor work? I've got a dead FJC that needs a motor. Any simple modifications that improve high RPM power? I did a quick search but I didn't find much. I don't suppose there are simple motor swap options for more powerful motors. Budget is an issue as are the time constraints.

This is to be a desert racer with the goal of finishing the Vegas to Reno race this fall.

Any input is much appreciated!

I dunno... I haven't seen anyone running anything but the 4.0 liter. I am guessing that is becase there aren't any dead FJ's out there with blown motors (with the exception of yours, naturaly). The 4.0 is the same motor that has gone into Tacoma's for some time. Being that there are a lot of Taco's out there and I am sure some of them have needed motor work/replacement I would suggest poking around in a Tacoma forum. Hope this helps, please keep us posted on your solution. here's to you shoe horning a V8 in there!!

PS- How did your dead FJ come to be, well.... dead? Just curious.

Oh yeah, there's this guy: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2938858

Budget was NOT an option in his build. It's called the Uber FJ for a reason. He has some engine work done, 420hp at the crank (est). Take a look, it's impressive all the way around. Hope this helps.

It's for sale BTW...

Adding either the TRD or URD supercharger to the 4.0 L FJ motor has been done quite a few times. I remember reading a thread about a total motor rework over on the blue forum once, perhaps a year ago or so.

the auto used in the FJC is the same as used in the 4.7 V8 4-Runner, and there is a 'officially unsubstantiated rumor' out there that the 4.7 fits in the FJC as well :)

^^ now that is interesting...

The motor died last year at the 2008 V2R race. Several factors including inadequate air filtration caused it's demise.

I appologize if these are very basic questions. I really don't know much about FJCs. I've read that the FJC came with a different motor in the earlier years? This one is a 2007. Do I need to be shopping for a specific series of years with the 2007 motor?

At this point, motor conversions are likely not going to happen unless it is plug and play. Superchargers are pretty pricey for our budget as well. We are a group of amatures looking for an addrenaline fix. We pretty much go with the expectation that the rig is to some degree expendible. It has to be if it is really to be raced. So the bling bling superchargers are a tough sell as that is a lot of additional cost on the line. That is unless some sweet sponsorship money rolls in! Our goal is to get this one running strong and work on the bugs learned in last years race. I guess we need to solve the "consistency" problems before we begin on the "faster" problems.

It is extremely helpful to know the cross overs. This opens a LOT of options.

Does anyone know what years of Tacoma trucks share engine blocks with 2007 FJC 4.0?

What the hell - And if anyone has an idea on the years the 4.7 V8 4-Runner motor might be matched up, please post up? I can dream too! Any suggestions where I might do some digging and research into the interchangability of the 4.7 and the FJC? I suppose the ECU will need to be swapped.

Thanks a bunch. I'll post some pics for your viewing pleasure in the coming weeks.

demello offroad built the uber fj give them a call they will be able to tell you everything about the engine that you want to know

Here is what Wikipedia has to say on the 1GR-FE.

Toyota GR engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It looks like I am in the market for a motor from:

2003 4-Runner
2005 Tacoma
2005 Tundra
or another 2007 FJC.

Apparently, the 1GR have a sleeved cyclinder that can not be machined. Rebuilding a block sounds like it is not an option. Bummer.

Can the sleeves be replaced?

At least you don't just have to look for a wrecked FJ. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Wikipedia says no replacing the sleeves. The pics I've found of the block indicate a no on that as well. The sleeves are very thin and appear to be part of the casting.

GoISU - the broader the market the better chance I have of finding one. Thanks for the input.

Just to stoke your imagination, Toyota built a FJC for SEMA show several years ago. It was powered with the V8 and lifted. Also, had the rear opened like the Hummer. Google it. Well worth your time!

I found a yard up here (seattle) that has a few 1GR-FE.

I haven't gone any further on the V8. Yet!

Thanks for the input so far!
