long story, but rebuilding my 2001 lx470 2uzfe, (doing a video and blueprinting it after 435k miles, results are pretty nuts) but im looking at pistons, i find a couple non-oem brands that seem interesting, anyone recommend any brands, debating on spending too much money and going oem or going aftermarket, build is going to be stock. i mean rings alone oem are 800 bucks lol, anyone have any experience? also i cant seem to find a gasket kit oem like i could my other engines, like complete engine block gasket kit and cylinder head gasket kit.

OEM gets my vote. As for pricing check Partsouq. I placed a huge order when I did my rebuild. Are you honing the cylinders? OEM only has standard sized and one slightly larger size. A gasket kit is available, and you should be able to find it in the engine parts diagrams section. It saves you a little bit instead of buying everything separately. When I did mine I already had a few of the gaskets so it made it not worth it.

yeah i found the gasket set, not used to it being in its own catagory, but yeah got that, i think ima go oem as well, kinda crazy, my clearances with 435k miles are like new on my mains and rods, i have a torque plate for the 2uzfe, so i bolted that on, and my cylinders not within spec, also pistons are .002 under, so going oversized and getting bored/honed. I dont think they are machined with a torque plate at the factory so my measurements are probably not relatable to the factory ones on the cylinders. plan on keeping the car forever so ill just pony up for some oem parts.

Love seeing data like this! Well done. @2001LC will probably be interested as well.

yeah, making a video covering it all, here is a test shot. Was just taking this to see how much more i can push the colors etc in grading from my a7iii's 8bit 4:2:0 to the new 10 bit 4:2:2, ill post a video when the measurements are done :)

Cool!

I like the idea of all stock.Toyota sells 2 sizes pistons and rings. Std and O/S 0.50 (0.02") over. Trick will be finding a great machinist. Best to come in tight with bore to ring gap. As rings are not file ends to fit. Next is hone store grit, also the angle and depth in cylinders of hone. Which I've never seen info on.

You'd save a ton of cash, if old pistons reused. Pictures of cylinders and piston would be cool!

@rancejunge had figured out an h-beam and high compression forged piston combo for the 2UZ. I know you said a couple times just OEM rebuild but all that work for 230 horses when you could have many more?

Awesome to see the data and looking forward to more but really it just confirms what all of us already know about Japanese engines. They are so well made.

Seems like that would be the ticket if you're doing a full rebuild as long as reliability wouldn't suffer. I wouldn't quite say the 2UZ is underpowered, but there are certainly no ponies left over either.

Oh Yeah, stay with OEM parts including pistons and rings!
We rebuild the engine in our hilux LN 106 with OEM parts and very happy with the result. When boring the cylinders, make sure you send it to a reputed shop.
