Engine puller

I don't know exactly what to call it, which might be why I can't seem to find it in search. Several times on here I have seen someone use a tool to pull an engine/trans combo that hangs from your hoist and mounts to the top of the engine and allows you to adjust the angle of the combo as it goes in. I've always done it with just a chain bolted to the manifold bolts on a small block, but I'd like to pick up one of these. Anyone have a good picture of one or where to get one? I tried calling it an engine puller, engine hoist, motor puller and motor hoist, but didn't find anything on it and looked at Harbor Frieghts web site just to see if I could find one and no luck. Thanks.

I've used one, and have also done several engine swaps without one. It does make things a little easier, but it's not absolutely necessary. Sometimes they can be a problem if you're working on a tall lifted rig and the cherry picker isn't really tall, there isn't enough height to get in between the end of the boom and top of the engine and still be able to get the engine up high enough to clear the front core support.

Yep. They work really well, and are especailly helpful in an FJ40 where you pull the entire drivetrain as a unit. But it can certainly be done without it.

Just thought I'd update this and say I got it and it is really, really helpful. Sure beats trying to keep the tail shaft up with a floor jack while you are setting the angle. Thanks again. Sorry the pic isn't of it going in a cruiser. I need to get the '49 Olds done so I can get the 45 LPB in and start working on it.
