Hey guys, new to this forum and to the cruiser world. I just picked up an 84 fj60. In great condition other than it is in need of an engine rebuild. I am pulling the engine and never have done it before on any vehichle. Just lookin for any recommendations or advice for getting one out of a 60 and for re-installation.

Thanks

For overall ease of access, pull the hood, the radiator, move the A/C condenser (if you have one) to the side, and remove the middle of the radiator support. Much easier than trying to lift the lump all the way over the front.

Purchase the Factory Service Manual (FSM) and study it first. Find experienced help to guide you.

Take at least a 1,000 pictures during the disassembly.

Then take another 1,000.

Bag and label even the simplest component removal.

Use only Toyota seals and gaskets. Possibly Fel-Pro if your machinist recommends it.

Buy a low time used engine instead of overhauling if you're on a budget or are short on time. Lots of cheap 2F's out there if you're not building a restoration.

Make friends with Beno and read his entire thread.

Describe the symptoms of your engines failure here to make sure it's not resurrectable.

Post a build thread so we can help you as you go.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the input everyone, got the engine out this weekend. No issues, everything went very smooth.
