Im leaving in a day for a one week dispersed camping trip and I just noticed an oil leak.

Im trying to figure out if it’s a good idea to clean the oil stains/drip before the trip or leave them alone.

Unfortunately, I cannot get the oil leak inspected or repaired today, so I have to go in my trip with this leak.

I did notice that the oil dip stick was showing an oil level slightly below the halfway point between the two dots. I added about 1/2 quart to raise it above the halfway point. It’s been 3500 miles since my last oil change.

Any oil additives I can add in the meantime? I’m actually afraid to add any kind of additive to stop a leak. I fear they cause more damage than good.

I would clean it off as best you can now before the trip. That way you can easily keep an eye on how active the leak is by the time you get back home. It's not like the grime is plugging anything as it sits. Keep an extra quart with you just in case and enjoy the camping trip!

Sounds reasonable.

Probably cam covers or oil pan, neither is a big deal unless it leaves a spot bigger than a nickel on the ground. Just keep an eye on it until you get back.

Thanks. I’ll have to check the skid plate which catches most oil leaks from hitting the ground

Older thread I know (came up under "Similar Threads"), but a bottle of this stuff totally fixed my rear main seal leak:
Amazon product ASIN B000NVW1LM
I'm going to give the GX a treatment with this stuff every few years.

Definitely just keep an eye on it and grab a quart of oil for the trip. Clean it off if you want a better idea of how bad it is leaking, but I wouldn't worry too much about it! Deal with it after the trip.
